Madrid to Newcastle in early July

Planning to return back to the UK from Madrid following the end of university year abroad. What is the current situation with flying via Heathrow? Will I get caught up in the horrendous queues reported in the press? Or do I get checked at Newcastle? If so would I be liable to miss my connecting flight?

I guess an alternative is to use KLM and fly via Schipol, but I have an (unwanted credit) from Iberia to use or use Ryanair and fly direct to a UK airport.

I will have two large suit cases. Anyone got an opinion on the best course of action?

I suspect that Ryanair with your luggage would be very expensive (unless you can have your suitcases sent separately).

Anyway, this question is probably best answered on a forum such as Flyertalk. Personally I think I would save the airline credit for happier times rather than face the queues at Heathrow.

Queues may be worse if international travel has been opened up by then.
