I recently received an email from NPower Select informing me that my contract is coming to an end (see below). I decided to change to SSE. All was going well until now when I received a letter informing me that I can't change because another energy company registered to switch my supply. I've found out that NPower Select has been taken over by Eon Next and they are automatically moving customers over. I did not choose to be switched over. Can they block me from changing supplier just because they are in the process of being taken over?

Email received:

"We wanted to let you know that your current tariff (Exclusive 12 Month Fix v2) will come to an end on 28 May 2021.

What Next:

Whilst there’s still some time to go, we thought we’d let you know your options. How you wish to move forward is completely up to you. PS Energy UK Limited, which includes npower Select, is now part of the E.ON group. This means all our existing customers will, in the coming weeks, be supplied by E.ON Next. We’re working hard to make the changeover as smooth as possible and we will keep you informed every step of the way.

As your tariff is ending, you can choose to either:

  1. Do nothing and be automatically moved onto our standard variable tariff. This may not be the best option for you.

  2. Sign up to a different npower Select fixed price tariff.

  3. Switch to a different energy supplier."
