Water meter installed by UU looks a mess

Options
Just had a water meter installed which to me looks like a very untidy job. They had to cut away part of the kitchen cupboard to gain access which is fair enough but the installed additional pipework looks very amateurish. The meter has been installed at the back and is resting on a shelf. What do others think or am I being fussy?

It just looks like an excessive amount of pipework and the meter is unsupported and resting on the shelf at the back (Which is removable). I would have thought that it could have been fitted in front of the hole and made more accessible to view when required (I think the readings are sent by radio). It will now be buried behind the stuff going back into the cupboard and gladly out of sight.

I’m with you OP, it’s an amateur mess, even I with my dreadful plumbing ‘skills’ would be ashamed of that!

I assume they couldn't fit an external meter?(the preferred choice of companies)

Rather than that untidy job, I am surprised you weren't offered an assessed rate.
  • I agree it looks a mess, I’d be asking them to come back and fix that!

Looks a mess and not as clean as mine that was fitted by YW. The meter looks like it only reads FULL CUBIC METERS of water whereas my meter registers in litres. it has 4 black numbers then 3 red to show individual litres. Much easier for me to read the meter weekly.
Someone please tell me what money is

Much easier to pay a trusted plumber to come and refit it. UU will never know.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Yes, it not great. The person who fitted mine said he'd put it a level I could read it. Instead, he fitted it nearly at floor level.

I think that may be the better option.
