Average cost to get house painted?

Hi, I live on a street of Victorian terraced houses in Bristol. I've just painted my house (yes I know it's a crazy colour).

Many neighbours have said they'd love to do theirs but probably won't get round to it or don't have the money to pay professionals.

I'm considering offering to do it for them for a decent price. I'm not a professional but I've done a fair but of painting and I'm quite obsessive!

Just wondering how much would professionals normally charge to paint just the front of one of these houses? Including prepping : filling and fixing sills etc. Pressure washing, fungicidal wash. Then two coats on the details and the main wall in different colours. The Victorian details are very annoying to paint, you have to just stab at them to fill all the deep bits.

Took me about a full days prep but I had more issues than most. Then one day to do the details, frames, and one day to do two coats on the main wall and clear up.

Thanks, once I know what this would normally cost I can offer it to them for much less.

My main incentive is a multi coloured street! But also need the work :)

Around £150 a day plus materials would be my guess, but that is just a guess!

Be careful offering to carry out the work for them. Do you have insurance? What if you injure someone or something whilst doing the work? There's a reason professionals charge what they do!

You say you had more trouble than most on your own house, but how do you know that?  What happens if you pressure wash the render on a neighbour's house and the render comes off?  You will be responsible for making good any damage.  If you discover problems part way through a job and don't have the skills to fix that problem how will you cover the additional cost?
I appreciate that you are trying to generate work, but be careful what you take on.

I should have really just kept it simple and asked how much it would cost to get these kinds of houses painted!

if anyone has any idea that would be great

You've obviously put in a lot of work to refresh the look of your home. I might not be that pleased with the colour if I were living opposite you though.

It might not be my colour choice but it looks a lot better than peeling paintwork.  The whole idea of painting up the frontages of rows of terraced houses seems to be catching on.

A couple of thoughts... A Victorian property is likely to be solid brick wall, maybe rendered in lime. It is not a good idea to slap modern plastic paints on to this type of wall nor most types of stone. The paint can trap moisture within the wall causing problems with damp and spalling of brick & stone.
Be very careful in your selection of paints..

Lucky you don't live in Bristol then! My neighbours love it and most of them want to have some bold colours too :)

So with peoples opinions about colour choice and health and safety etc aside, any rough ideas of what a professional would charge to paint the front?

That's a lovely job and the colour's okay for orange too.
About the money side of things, you said in your op that you needed the work so how much do you need to earn per hour taking into account some kind of insurance cover and maybe a bit of extra equipment as well?
I'm suggesting you work it out that way because you probably have a sense of how much your neighbours will be able to afford to spend on this sort of job so then you'll know if this is worth pursuing or not.

Every job is different, so has to be assessed on its merits.

A good decorator will charge upwards of £150 a day.  I would expect a good decorator to spend a lot more time prepping than painting.

They also need to be able to assess the state of the existing render and know their limitations.  Where it stops becoming decorating...
