hi,
I've opened a shares account at Hargreaves but I was shocked at all the charges...
First they charge a fee to buy the stock. Then they charge a currency conversion fee, and some other fees too.
I'm down 200 pound just after buying the stock.

is there a cheaper broker out there?

I'm used to using trading212 and it's much cheaper imo so looking for a similar low cost broker. Is Deigro any better / cheaper?

They are primarily a funds platform and a place for mainstream investments.

Maybe you've now realised it's not a good idea to buy shares to only hold for a few months?

Which shares have cost you £200 in charges? Why didnt you use trading212?
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

Probably a share in the USA on the Nasdaq which has gone to the moon in the last year ? Some days I think these threads are a wind up ?

I wondered that too. The charges are on the product webpages, the costs would have been shown when trading so it's a bit late to be shocked.

Considering that HL charges 1% for Fx, if you buy £20000 worth of shares, only foreign exchange costs you £200.

That cannot be down to the charges. Almost certainly its down to the bid/offer split.

You opened an account and later were shocked by the charges ?    Didn't you read about the charging structure before you opened the account  ?

I think that posts like this are sometimes from people with an interest in trading212, Etoro and Deigro
