BT EMail incompatible with my Iphone

I and my computer expert have spent four hours (two on the phone) trying to save my emails when I was told the Mail server was not working . I changed my BT password and then could not send or receive any emails I was in danger of losing all the emails but fortunately my computer buff saved them
call to BT asked me to close down BT internet on iPhone in mail setting and subscribe to the BT App
Am I the only person this has happened to??
