Bed bugs

Options
I have purchased duvet from a retailer online. Few months down from time that i i start using blanket I have noticed a bites on my legs( several bites occured around 5 days ago) as it was quite itchy i understood that those are bed bug bites i got puzzled where from they came as i never had that issue, after i started to wash everything i noticed bugs inside of duvet as it got wet and they start showing through. I do have a small baby that now i realized had single bites as well but i thought that might been allergy to a food(which wasn'ti figured out lately)as sometimes we slept together on same bed.
They have given me refund for blanket but i demanded fairness as it causing me distress and inconvenience as well as i i  getting exhausted fighting with creatures by washing unseen ammount of clothing bedding towels and coverings.
My question is what are my rights?

I'm surprised they refunded you, given the infestation emerged a few months from purchase.  Have they acknowledged the infestation originated in their product?

You've had a refund, are you suggesting you want compensation as well?  For what?  What costs have you incurred from the infestation that haven't already been refunded?

Difficult to prove that the bites are from bed bugs unless bugs found .
Even more difficult to prove they came from the product as they can lie low for long periods and are often brought in to the home .
  • I have opened up a duvet  and have sent them pictures of it that its itt one of them. As it all started after i have purchased that product. I haven't purchased anything else jor i did go out to visit other people during lockdown

Well yes i would like them to cover extermination costs. As I know bed bug cycle  taking 2-3weeks after 1st feed to lay eggs and hatch( to spread) that would make sense that i got more bites now as they have start spreading. Its a very beginning of infestation so the signs are very little I have checked bed and mattress and it did not come from there.
As i i say bites have appeared after i have start to use duvet bought from retailer and also it did have weird smell, i thought it might be because of chemical they might have used vgor feathers but now i start thinking that the smell could have caused by bugs in it.

It is highly unlikely that they came in on brand new bedding, and if they did you are not going to be able to prove it, as they can be brought into a house, on clothing, luggage or furniture. They also feed on other animals including cats, dogs and birds.

Without proof you have no rights, but you are going have to get a professional pest controller in to get rid of the infestation as they can hide in the smallest of spaces.

Send them the bill for costs and see what they say .
But as said they are almost invisible so not sure how you would prove your case .
What did you actually see .

Public transport is apparently a regular 'vehicle' for them; think that's where I brought them home from once.
  • Everyone suggest me that i call pest control well truth is not everyone has spare money on pest control ( then i will not pay rent).
And I am currently in very tough and sad situation.
They asked me to send a proof that it comes from blanket so i took it appart to show them creatures living there. Then today they asked me what made me yo take blanket appart.
    Everyone start playing idiot.

You'll have a tough time proving the bed bugs were in an unused duvet or blanket.

The timing could just be coincidental with the infestation coming from elsewhere.

Few months after starting to use > probably not the source .Bed bugs as you call them could well have transferred to duvet from elsewhere  , bugs can hibernate for long periods of time .
Single bites probably not bed bugs .
As said difficult to prove your claim that the duvet was the source  .
Pictures of these bugs on your duvet .??

You can take them to the Small Claims Court for costs but will need real evidence  .
