He certainly owned PEN15, I've got a photo of the silver Merc Coupe with it fitted in a carpark near Donington.Roland_Sausage said:

Can you buy a "normal" number plate from DVLA if a car has been scrapped, say, 5 years ago? How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0

No. Plates on cars that are notified as scrapped are never reissued.Sea_Shell said:Can you buy a "normal" number plate from DVLA if a car has been scrapped, say, 5 years ago?

A lady I knew called Penny in Kidderminster had PEN51 but I've not seen it around for a long time.BOWFER said:Steve Parrish, ex bike-racer and best mate of Barry Sheene, has PEN15 and PEN115.
Penny, shorten to name Pen?
Registration assumed to read PEN'S 1
Imagine a missing / invisible apostrophe.
I don't know, of course, but that's one option.
I doubt that this specific Penny will see and comment on the thread, so we are all stuck guessing.
It kind of shows the futility of the vanity plate, but if it makes the owner happy, why not?0 -
Back in the 80s my dad showed me an article in one of his medical magazines about a Harley Street consultant who had PEN 1S on his Rolls Royce and LAB 1A on his wife's!2

Thanks but the reg does not read well IMO.poppasmurf_bewdley said:
I dunno. Maybe Penny was born in 51 (which would be about right), or maybe she lived at No. 51. A personalised plate is just that for yourself - personal.justworriedabit said:

It's interesting to see that on checking, the plate is not currently in use.0 -
Fortunately, you have no say in the matter. People spend their money how they want. So you don't have to worry a bit.justworriedabit said:

It's interesting to see that on checking, the plate is not currently in use."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock1 -
