What will you answer if they ask what is your negative quality? ( I have always wondered what one is supposed to say) Good luck

The trick is to say something that isn't too bad, but point out that you are aware of it and always take care to compensate.

Thanks for the good wishes everyone.

Today was a bit odd - my first day unemployed, well ever. This morning I went to the job centre just to sign up to get my national insurance contributions kept up. I resisted the temptation to wear a tracksuit, baseball cap and hoody.....

And this afternoon I rang a few agents chasing stuff up. And then, completely bizarrely, I got a call from someone from my very recent ex employer asking me if they could arrange a phone interview on Monday! It is for a job with a different subsidiary company, but they must be aware of my situation as they called me on my personal mobile.

    Squiffy dear chap....

Seems your doing very well, lots of praise being received etc....

Given your debt and household arrangements, and the redundancy situation you initially found yourself in would have been enough to break a lot of happy homes and introduce you to unwelcome debt collectors/agencies etc to say the least from a financial horror story perspective.

Just cautionary reminding words I whisper, but you as an individual have done well with good job roles to reach your last salary and resulting exit package, but getting to the state of debt for someone who has been seemingly earning well should be a serious wake up call for you and a very clear reality check should be stinging you deeply now and I hope that you have learnt from it and never find yourself in these shoes again.

It only gets tougher as you age and your still playing catch-up as a result of the debts now...

With that in mind, the employer exit package you've got has pretty much virtually halved your debt depending on if you choose to use it that way. You got lucky/fortunate I would say IMHO. Like I said, from 76K to 40K-ish is a serious godsend with very little effort. A lot of people in worse situations would benefit greatly if ever they could simply halve their debts just once.

Hope that you realise this and don’t fritter the position your in, 40K-ish is far more manageable - but please do learn something from this escapade, as you still have a long way to go for real healing self-praise to follow...

If you dont like the undertones in this message, then you do have longer to go that you think.

    Still, a hearty Good Luck!

    Lopo

(p.s ...any joy with releasing the value in old smaller pension plans ?)

It is - don't worry on that score.

As for the pensions, I haven't pursued this yet. Not quite sure what to do - I think I'll wait and see what happens with getting a new job first.

    Hello,
Check out https://www.fixtureferrets.co.uk for details on all the grocery promotions most of the main supermarkets have on.
It is updated weekly and you can even set it up so you get an e mail whenever any of your regular groceries you buy are on offer.
I discovered it a few months ago and have certainly made some savings

    Best of luck

    Oh god the stress!

I went for an interview on Wednesday. It seemed to go very well, but they were seeing 4 other candidates. I'm due to hear back today whether I get to the next stage.

I really hope so. The job sounds VERY interesting, and the salary would be comparable to my last job.
