2 Year warranty with John Lewis tho, thats why i mentioned them not Tesco :j
My guess is you will probably need it.:D
I have a broken one just out of warranty;).
I mentioned the Tesco one cos last week it was back up to the normal £99.99, and they ( Tesco) must have renewed their deal with TUTV as sales slumped.ac's lovechild0 -

Hi there,
Yes, the HUMAX will take a TOP-UP card, but only if you buy a CAM to use in this. These vary in costs, but a quick google 'cam & top-up' should throw-up some answers. Top-Up themselves used to sell these. I would ask, however, whether it's really worth your while adding Top-Up. It is such a limited service! If you really wanted to go the Top-Up route, then Top-Up sell subsidised boxes!0 -
What about subscription channels as opposed to the top-up service - is there a difference / can the Humax be adapted?0

It would appear to need a CAM (Conditional Access Module) as James123 said. This is similar to the old PC Card for laptops (usb killed it) with a slot in it to take the viewing card, and costs around £50 if you can find one.
The only other card subscription on Freeview is the Setanta Sports one that uses the TUTV CAM. You will have to wait well into analogue shutdown for similar offerings to Sky.
I would get the Tompson from Tesco as mentioned for £80, this already has the only cam in use at the mo, and comes with one free month for TUTV not Setanta tho.ac's lovechild0 -
Thanks for the advice about CAMs, Dad has now bought a Thomson with Cam included, but now he's not sure he'll even use top-up
I'll stick to my tried and tested (and much loved Hummy).0
