Curious about low speed if I switched.

Evening!
Currently with VM, have been for the past 16 years.
Moved house in December and carried the 100Mbps package across with me. The house also has a landline, so out of curiosity I thought i'd have a look to see what kind of speeds I could get if I decided to move away from VM in the future.
I was pretty surprised to see this!

Only 1Mb guaranteed. This is details of my exchange

Just wondered whether this is standard, or am I missing something!

Not sure what you mean by ‘standard’, but it’s not typical, most areas can get FTTP or FTTC from Openreach , if the address in question doesn’t have access to FTTP or FTTC and only exchange based ADSL at around 3-7 Mb suggests a significant distance to the exchange, if your address is only served by ADSL then it’s in the small minority of locations.
If you are genuinely interested in getting a ‘proper’ estimate for the address then use this
https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/Because you don’t have a ‘BT’ WLR type line you won’t have a compatible phone number so use the address option, that should get you a reasonable estimate ( although not as accurate as using a compatible phone number )0 -
powerful_Rogue investigate mi-fi instead of internet from the phone line

A&A use the OR system so are not going to be able to offer anything different & I honestly don't see how they are a good recommendation, imagine paying a higher price for a capped download limit0

FTTC 20-40Mbps is shown in your screenshot, but since it's not being recommended I'd say the cabinet is full.
Andrews & Arnold do have the best customer support bar none. Every byte of that limit will be at the maximum possible speed for the line because their backhaul capacity is never overloaded. They also press Openreach very hard if the line itself is performing below expectations. It does cost a premium price (maybe not very MSE), but for some people it's worth it.southsidergs said:A&A use the OR system so are not going to be able to offer anything different & I honestly don't see how they are a good recommendation, imagine paying a higher price for a capped download limitBut you are right - probably not useful in this case.0 -
Thanks for the replies. From reading around I thought it might have something to do with the cabinet being full. Not in any rush to switch from VM - Just like to know what my future options are!Funny thing is, if I check my old address - 5 minute drive away, served by the same cabinet, it offers mich better speeds on the BT website!0

The speeds you get are related to the distance from the cabinet and the quality of the the cabling between you and it.
You also have to take into account whether cabinet is full or not so all you can get is what is available at the time you request it. Increasing the capacity of the cabinet isn't always possible and a second cabinet my be required, the provision of which is a non-trivial exercise requiring civil works, power supplies and possibly even planning permission
We are 3 miles from our cabinet and the best we can get is around 1-1.8mbit/s. We had FTTP installed around 3 years ago. and I now get 76mbit/s. A check on the BT wholesale site this morning shows that there's now a waiting list if I want to get FTTP at my addressNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -

I didn't recommend them as such, merely suggested a speed comparison to go with the https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL
and if both show the same or similar results.
With that info you could then check the ISP's to improve matters with a better comparison against VM.

All makes sense. My property is served by cabinet 15 and there is a waiting list.
Checked my previous address down the road, that is served by cabinet 18 and there are slots available.0 -
powerful_Rogue mi-fi will trample all over ADSL, it is internet & phone via mobile phone provider. 3 mobile for example £15 pcm for every thing unlimited
