I signed up to AutoAid last year through a deal on this website. However, I had a better offer from RAC this year. I followed the link in AutoAid's renewal email to opt out of automatic renewal so that my policy would not automatically renew this year. Fortunately I took screenshots. They have taken the money out of my account despite this.

I have called them this morning and they are saying that there must have been a 'system error' as it has not registered on their end. I have had to email them the screenshots that I took and I now await their response.

I thought that people should be made aware of this so that you can take screenshots as you do it.

    Good morning OP

Sadly, the auto renew experience you are having is not just applicable to this co, it's rife.  Every time we change car/home/retla/white good/CH/etc/etc insurance we demand NO AUTO renew - often, not always, we double/trbel check and get it in writing ie separate email so they know we mean business and often take the name of the person we are apeaking to.  Its easier if they have tick boxes but not always

Slightly different, Mr J used Amazon the other day after years bought something and paying for it online was long and laboorious as it kept on wanting  him to join up their premier service so he was carful to tick several boxes decling the offers - but then he go an email welcoming to free amazon movies etc - he sent an email back asking for evidecne he requested that they responded within minutes saying sorry/etc - I guess its a regular thing IMO

Yes, I got a reminder which contained a link to opt-out of the auto renewal. I followed the link and opted out, fortunately taking screenshots each step of the way. However, they still took the £59.99 and when I phoned to say that I had opted out of the renewal they said it wasn’t recorded on their side so there must have been a “system error”. Apart from the onscreen message that confirmed I had opted out there was no confirmation email. If I had not taken a screenshot of that screen I would not have had any evidence that I had completed their online opt out form.

Yes, I think you are right about it being common. It was precisely because I had previously signed up for a free trial and I had cancelled it using the organisations online cancellation form and not received an email confirmation that I now make it a habit of taking screenshots every step of the way in situations like this to ensure that I have evidence of completing the online forms.

I’m glad to hear that Amazon responded appropriately at least.

An update... I have now been given a refund because I was able to provide the screenshots that I took of each step of the cancellation. It took longer than they originally said it would, which again they said was due to system errors.

I used a credit card that expired before renewal date, so when it came to renewal they couldn't take payment - they did call several times to urge me to renew.

I'd been with them a couple of years and used them once, so no qualms from a service point of view.
  • AUTOAID renewed my policy last year without notifying of new premium, seeing as I previously complained to them that their operative was little more than a pick-up driver----hadn't a clue !! Have asked to be refunded as taken without consent and they just laughed at me. POOR SERVICE ON OR OFF THE ROAD. WOULDN'T RECOMMEND EVEN TO MY ENEMIES. No refund from credit card as beyond 120 dys since payment.
