Head's up: Virgin retentions getting tougher and meaner?

Watch out guys - maybe retentions are toughening up to haggling tactics?

With my old 100MB Virgin deal (£20 pm) coming to an end last month I gave them a call and was offered £34pm, followed by £28 on the same call, which I refused and put in an account cancellation. I've been fully expecting them to call me back over the last month, but no one ever did! With 3 days to go, I began to worry I'd been forgotten, so I called to confirm my cancellation, which I half expected to result in a better offer, but nothing. And then this morning, I was cut off! To make matters worse, when I then called and they noticed the account cancellation, they were very abrupt and made every effort to make me accept £43, saying that as my account had now closed, there was no customer loyalty bonus. After some rather tense conversations, I managed to whittle it back to £28pm.

Overall, not what I was expecting 🤦‍♂️

They had you over a barrel there. Why didn't you apply to another provider? That usually focuses them on retaining you.
  • I'm in my 30 days notice period as I'm moving to FTTP from BT (as I've had enough of an unstable connection dropping all the time, over 7 years and still not fixed)

Despite being on 100meg for £20 (and no contract) I've still had at least three calls asking what it would take to keep me. If only they put that much effort into fixing their network I might have stopped...

I rang them because I am OOC in May,  currently paying £36.50 for  100mb  and talk w/e  rising to £46.50. Was offered and refused £36.50 then £38.50 with a sim card then I rang back and the offers got worse £40 then £43.

I have been a customer for about 17 years.

Thing is I can only get a minimum guaranteed speed of 0.2Mb in my area from other isp's so it's not looking good.

Also it's a 18 month contract now not 12 mths as previous.

I think it's all part of the new cruelty.
