Microchip scar

Our kitten was microchipped at the end of October and had a scab beween his shoulder blades which basically lifted all the fur in that area out and was attached by a stalk to his skin!.
That finally came off and he now has a bald spot the size of a drawing pin head there, and there are no signs of the fur growing back- he has a black back so it is noticeable!
My question is- is this normal, and will it eventually grow back?

Sorry....but none of my animals has got a scar where they were microchipped!

Is there any chance he may have an infection there ( don't mean to scare....honest!) and maybe talk to your vet about it? Just to be safe....I'm sure they won't charge for a phonecall!

Doesn't sound normal at all - I'd go back to the Vet and ask them to check that the chip is still implanted.
Fingers crossed all is well with the chip but it does sound like your kitty had a reaction or infection of some sort.
    Hope you get it sorted,

it is literally a bald patch now, not bothering him at all!
    - it wasn't there before, (he was neutered at the same time), found it while stroking him and felt the scab then it stayed like that for a couple of weeks and then I could see that the fur was now attached to the scab not the skin anymore and there was literally- like I said- a stalk keeping it on!

I'm not concerned about it- there's no infection- just linked it with his chip being fitted and wondered if the fur would come back

Puzzled though if you say its not normal- are your cats black too?- guess it shows up more on black ones!

    Thats good news :T

You could get your kitty a wig for Chrimbo so the other cats don't make fun of him.

Bless him- he'll have to wear his Christmas outfit to keep his baldy bit warm
My neighbours bought him this, not me- by the way....

  • It happened to our cat too - he's had a bald patch by his shoulder blades which never grew back - he's ginger so you only see it rarely - :)
