Virgin Money - misleading credit cards
Comments

Going off topic, can I check with you as presumably you've got the Virgin current account for the interest? Does your credit card show on the same banking app as mine doesn't. My Clydesdale business account and personal virgin accounts are on the banking app (I select which on a login splash-screen) but my card is on the virgin credit card app.cymruchris said:Funnily enough I did the same recently - I had a regular Virgin credit card - but noticed the Atlantic card was coming up on the generic checker websites as 100 percent - so I tried the Virgin own one, and got that same message. I also went ahead and applied - and it went to referral - which I thought was strange as it had said I'd get one too. As it happened, 5 days later and after 3 hard searches, they approved it. I then complained to Experian to get the 2 additional hard searches removed, which they've done.
As you used their own website eligibility checker - it might be worth a letter/email to try and garner an explanation.I've asked them on chat if all can be on the same app but they don't seem to grasp my question! Is yours separate apps or all on one app?0 -
If your asking what I think your asking, I can tell you I have the Virgin money account and Virgin credit card and they are separate apps although it just sort of happened that way as I had the Virgin credit card first for a good while and then (I guess you know this) they stopped online login of the credit card so I had to use app and then when I opened the Virgin money account I downloaded that app too because I found the credit card app quite easy to use.funkycredit said:

Whether you can use the same app for current account AND credit card I don't think it's possible but not 100% on that as I haven't asked Virgin either.1 -
Exactly what I meant, yes. Thanks - that's what I'm doing; logging into two separate apps. Be much easier if everything was on the one, much like Barclays / Barclaycard. You can choose to keep separate or add to each and thus see all accounts on either app. That's the proper way, I'd say!onlyfoolsandparking said:

That's the result of Virgin buying/merging with different banking entities under the Virgin branding but not doing anything with regard to merging the computer systems.funkycredit said:

That's why Virgin current account, linked savings accounts and some new savings accounts are on one app/online portal.
Virgin credit cards are on another separate app with no online access and Virgin's original savings accounts have an online portal only with no app. I understand how they've got here and maybe they simply can't (or daren't) try to integrate them all but it does come across as rather disjointed and a bit messy..2 -
I had one hard search at the time of application - and then two more 3 days later. I had the two more 3 days later removed.funkycredit said:
Were the hard searches done at point of application or separately on a different date (like a day later when underwriter viewed it)?cymruchris said:Funnily enough I did the same recently - I had a regular Virgin credit card - but noticed the Atlantic card was coming up on the generic checker websites as 100 percent - so I tried the Virgin own one, and got that same message. As you used their own website eligibility checker - it might be worth a letter/email to try and garner an explanation. My Experian doesn't even show the soft search I did, albeit I never continued as I've got a VM card so just closed the browser.Didn't realise you can have multiple cards. I've just got the Cassette style one.
I wasn't sure you could get more than one - that's why I tried Virgin's own checker - and eventually got accepted (at half the limit of my existing Virgin card). It wasn't as straightforward as it implied - it wasn't an instant yes.
As for your other question - yes - as has been answered - two apps - one for credit cards (it can hold both cards - there's a card switch button) and one for the current account.1 -

OMG, that's a mess. Glad I didn't apply for anything from Virgin, though I was also pre-approved.

One app for your credit card. (or as many credit cards as you have with them)
One app for all of your savings and current accounts.
I might call that a minor inconvenience - but not a mess.1 -

If it was only that simple.cymruchris said:

One app for credit cards
Multiple apps/online portals for current accounts (YB, Clydesdale and VM) and some new savings accounts.
Online portal with no app for other (old and new) VM savings accounts.
It's not unmanageable but as I said, appears disjointed and a bit messy.

Oh it's definitely messy. I've added my CB business account to my virgin personal app and now it shows a red splash page with the separate links - business / personal. Fine. However in doing so, it auto logged me out and removed all access & security tokens from my original CB app! Not really very friendly, albeit I can see the logic as I recently had a letter saying my CB business is now Virgin business so I guess by both being on the one app makes sense. Anyway....0
