Ask them to contact you when it is striped to look at the whole assy and see which parts they are replacing ,if they are cutting corners then you can stand and argue your corner to get the car done right.
No offence to the OP, but if he/she didn't recognise what a slipping clutch was when driving, he/she evidently isn't mechanically minded at all and isn't going to know what clutch parts look like.....

  • I've had a few dodgy clutches in my time but never had one that slipped whilst actually IN gear. It's always been in the lower gears and pulling away or getting into gears.

I'm a bit mechanically minded..I've fixed my cars plenty of times but yeah I don't know much about clutch parts.

But they could always take someone with them that does know what a clutch kit looks like.
  • Op, I hope it works out for you. What I want to add as this is a MSE site and something I've applied to everything you buy that requires maintenance/etc is if you are struggling to pay the "100 pounds" what would you do if you had a puncture, broken windscreen even with most insurance co there can easily be an excess of 250 pounds, what if you had a prang with a bollard and smashed your headlight etc all costs money inc tyre punctures  new tyres and some people can have other faults not covered by warranty, etc. How would you legally run you car if other things happened to car or something else? not having a go at you OP just pointing out and when i was younger i saw a few people in uni get into trouble as having no money to get car fixed/mot'd etc.

That's actually typical of a worn out clutch; put it in third gear at low speed and rev up. Then if the clutch has gone the revs go up due to the slipping clutch while the car slowly picks up speed; a bit like it was an automatic,
