I'm new here but been browsing for a while.  I currently work about a 90 minute walk from my home and it's tiring, the place itself has gone down hill and to top it off I work with my ex gf. I applied for a night job about 20minute walk away from my home, more hours but less shifts a week, higher pay. However......

They wanted references (after) offering me the job, conditionally.  Hardly any communication from them.

They told me they'd submitted my dbs yet I found out they hadn't when I rang dbs myself to chase it up.

They've put on the system on my new starter account with them that I start on 30/04/21 but I have to give 4wks notice and have dbs cleared.  In addition to this, they went to occupational health all coz I have hay-fever which doesn't affect my ability to work.

I've told them that after being told to contact them should I have any questions or problems that I'm concerned about the low level of communication I've received from them.

Now I think I've jeopardised my chances with them, to me a conditional offer isn't a real job till made unconditional.

I'm curious as to how it looks to others and whether or not I'm overreacting or whether it looks like I stand a chance
  • Trust your gut, if you think any of this is a red flag - just because a job looks better, there is no guarantee it will be.
It does seem the norm now to have to chase to receive new job confirmation.

Oh boy, I often kick myself if I should have said to an Employer in January, my notice period was 2 months long. (could just by simply saying something like this have exposed what I was walking into)
So I think if you need to extend your start date, then you should speak to the new employer.

As an aside, a basic DBS check can be back in day's if you've ever had one before - last role, started, then asked to complete form for this, applied on Tuesday, had copy of the certificate on Saturday.

There will be other jobs, if you are getting bad vibes at this point and prefer to keep the security of your old job, which maybe wise.

I currently work in a care home, but it's the fact they claim they sent it off and yet they haven't. They say I'm to start on the 30th but obviously have to give 4wk notice and dbs cleared, it's enhanced one they after

I'm epileptic and have to be supervised, I'm not lazy as you imply. If anyone has a problem with it then get off my thread. I just want to know how it looks to others about my new offer which is conditional
