Ensuite advice

We are currently planning an extension which included additional bedroom and ensuite.

The current plan we have is an ensuite size of 2.4x1.1m.

My main concern is with a width of 1.1m, it will be difficult to locate the toilet with reasonable space in front of it. Most toilets seem to have a projection of around 0.6m, and therefore in my case I will only have around 0.4m in front which I dont think its enough. What are your thoughts?

Or does anyone have any new ideas on how I can arrange the ensuite within a 2.4 x1.1m area?

Thank you

AIUI there has to be at least 52.5 cm free space in front of the toilet.  I would definitely move the toilet to under the window.

    Is there a picture here?

The ideal layout is with the door in the middle of the room.  The loo sits on one side, facing the middle.  The shower on the other side and a shallow sink in front of the door.

Check the size of the room carefully as you want a shower tray that fits perfectly (and a door).  You don't want to spend extra money on having something bespoke, when putting the studwork in the right place means you can have something off the shelf.

I'd check shower screens now for an 1100mm.  1000 or 1200 is more common.

I have an en-suite of 1m depth like yours and I can tell you that I barely use it. This would not be the case if I weren't so tall or there was a little more leg room. You have an extra 10cm and a bit of door space but will it be enough for you to easily manoeuvre yourself onto it? Not really a problem is you wee standing up but some of us weren't built that way.

Can you arrange for the pocket door to slide from the other direction? In which case put the toilet under the window and the sink where the toilet is on your diagram (closer to the shower).

Eta: I had exactly the same choice as DG has outlined to you: I'm not unhappy with 1000mm, but in retrospect I should have gone with 1200mm to buy me more leg space on the toilet.

You get loads of leg room if the toilet faces the shower, regardless of the width of the room.

The ones on this site are as Doozergirl says.
I'm only 5'2" and find it a tight squeeze, both to wash using the sink or getting dry from the shower using a bath towel.
But the toilet's space is fine

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Thanks for the reply. Ignore the pocket door on the right, that was an earlier plan but it does not work now. The door has to go at the bottom now as shown by the blue arrow.

After a bit more research, I have found toilets with hidden cistern's, these save around 15cm of toilet projection. So now I am gaining this additional 15cm. Also I have the option of increasing the width from 1.1m to 1.2m. So in total, I will have 0.7m distance from the toilet to the wall now.

I think and hope this should work better.

Agree. But the problem I face them is the entrance door cant be at the bottom as indicated.

Are these accessible in a hurry, though? I have a bit of paranoia about being able to deal with toilet issues fast and without external assistance if necessary.

If you want the door at the bottom, there, perhaps some kind of wet room would work? I hate them, myself, as everything gets soaking, including the toilet paper. But if you want the door there, it's the only possibility I can think of. You'd need a waterproof door.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

    That's not a bad suggestion!

Do you have a link to these waterproof doors? Have you got any experience of them?
