Sorry if not but there is usually a way to get rid of 'improvements' if you don't like them. Not everyone does, as we know.
Another thought, what info is contained in the dots at the left hand top next to 'Outlook'? If you click on that does it give you any options to remove the sidebar?
That's for Office 365 - Outlook with an Office 365 Business subscription. Not applicable to the domestic version.
The "dots" (assume you mean the hamburger next to New Message) just hides the list of folders.
Bearing in mind all Outlook.com/Hotmail/MS accounts get access to some variant of Office even if its just the Lite version through the website. Its obviously an MS thing to try and "unify" the experience between webmail and "proper" Outlook.
Yes they have a project to unify the web/desktop/mobile Outlook experience - which isn't actually a bad thing
