Foreign object in supermarket food - who to report to?

After some advice. I don't want to go into specifics here but I found a large item within a food product this evening, which was purchased from a major UK retailer.

Can anyone tell me my best route on reporting this to a higher power, beyond the retailer? This is not my first bad experience with said retailer but previously it was "just" products gone bad which they happily replaced/refunded, but I've never found a foreign object in a food item before from them or any other retailer and have no idea what to do! I have taken pics and won't take it to store so they can destroy evidence but what do I do beyond that?

This is about ensuring the right people know about it rather than me getting my money back or compensation.

Whether they do anything is another matter but at least I will know I tried to stop this happening to someone else

I would really appreciate any advice.

The right people to know about it are said retailer.

So if it really is about that then no one else will come first.

If you have suitable photographic evidence then there should be no issue to provide the retailer with said evidence/batch numbers.

Report it to the retailer, they should log it  amd if you have the packaging then it will mean they can feed back to the supplier to then investigate it.

    Try environmenral health first.

If it is something that could be part of the product eg Leaves in sultanas, bone in fish then retailer
If something that shouldn't be,eg Shard of glass,,retailer/Enviro health with all possible packaging etc.

Report it to the retailer so it can be reported to the manufacturer.

Bar codes let them know when it was manufactured and on what production line (depending on what the product was).

If it is some sort of processed or packaged food then it might be a but of machinery that fell off in the manufacturing process. It does happen occasionally.

If you're talking about a random object in the food that didnt come off a production line then still contact the retailer and perhaps environmental health.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Why don't you want to go into specifics? If you're asking for advice, that advice often depends on specifics.

Report it to the Sunday Sport. Can see the headline now - 'I found a fridge freezer in my beef and onion pukka pie'

Report it to both the retailer & your local Environmental Health Department.
    Job done.

Why do you think they would destroy the evidence?

They will just contact their supplier and inform them of what the issue is and send it to them if they request it.

Report it to the manufacturer? Just about every food item you can buy these days has details of it's 'careline' on the packaging.
But i really don't see what your point is? What are you seeking to achieve? if you take it to the store they will replace it or refund you. Maybe give you an apology and a voucher for a few pounds. Beyond that, you aren't entitled to any compo, as you have suffered no loss.
Foreign bodies get into packaged foods every day of the week; it's inevitable with high-volume , high-speed factory production, despite all the precautions that are taken.
