I mean I didn’t have any DDs not many responsibilities as an 18 year old😅 but I just had my wages going in which I’ll change at work.Swoosh84 said:
You should still be able to initiate a switch with Santander even though you have already opened their account. Contact the switching team and they will transfer over your DDs ect to your new account.Nrenee said:
I should’ve done that when opening my Santander but I didn’t think it would work since they are closing my account down. Unless I switch it to another banks. What banks do you guys recommend. I won’t be doing anything crypto anymorePRAISETHESUN said:Rather than faffing about moving payments manually, just arrange a CASS switch from Barclays to HSBC/Santander. Your account with Barclays is going to close anyway so you might as well.
In future, probably a good idea not to use your main account for any potentially dodgy looking crypto stuff. You never know how the banks are going to react.
I done this with an old Halifax account I had for about 15 years. Was able to switch my current account to it despite its age.0 -
The account opening and account switching processes are entirely separate - you can't initiate a CASS switch without an open account after all.
In your case there shouldn't be any issue to do a switch to your existing Santander account. You might need to give them a call to initiate the switch as an existing customer but besides that there shouldn't be any obstacles - you said yourself that Barclays stated you can continue to bank normally until they close your account, so they won't prevent you from switching out while the account is still open.0 -
Hey guys just to update you I went into my branch today and they were so helpful. I managed to withdraw my whole balance from my account with no hassle. Even though they are closing my account and were not helpful on the phone they were very good in branch2

I'd still probably consider doing a switch anyway as it will ensure that any payments made to your old account are automatically forwarded top your new account - could be useful if you've forgotten to tell someone you have new bank details, or you get a refund from somewhere out of the blue.0
