Help me please, I have a lloyds Bank cheque account question
Do Lloyds have their head up an !!!!!! of some sort?
They seam to demand that I believe that there is some airy fairy law twisting their arm with regard the account log in authentication by phone be it mobile or fixed line. They fail to grasp that fixed line phones are on life support. They refuse to believe that others (nationwide as it happens) instead have a little gadget that you insert your card into/ enter your pin/ then the random number of 8 digits then displayed is used to authenticate your on line log in. No phone of any sort required. Internet with out a phone is a real option, from virgin in particular or more recently BT. Of late I get scam calls from 'Amazon' every few days. Why did Lloyds bother with 'my voice is my pass word' if it is unsuitable for log in authentication?

Nope.I have a Nationwide account and have recently had to get a text code in addition to that little card reader.In fact I had to upgrade my mobile in order to get Wi-fi text messages as we have no mobile signal where I live, and Nationwide informed me this is the future of banking.Last year I had a Lloyds Business account ( now closed) and that DID require a card reader - so I can assure you Lloyds knows all about them. They are just outdated now.2

I hate card readers, they are a load of faffing about. I much prefer the Lloyds Bank way, of using a 4 digit telephone authorisation code.3

I dislike both approaches and prefer verification by app itself, biometric or code generation.
Chip and Pin authentication requires a device and code by text is insecure.0 -

Do you mean receiving the automated call? Geez, that takes ages. Surely I can do it quicker with card reader.

I don't carry a card reader around with me, but do carry my mobile phone. This alone means that the phone text/call based system is better for me.
OP- I think you'd probably struggle to find many people with Internet but no phone (mobile or landline).
On a side note, I wish you could enter the code straight away with Lloyd's rather than having to wait 25 seconds...0 -
different banks have different procedures for desktop logon - what you could do is google how to login for each bank until you find one that suits you0

and I'll wearily add that even today there are some villages which have next to no mobile coverage at all and where a landline is essential
I know several of them where texts will get though but voice calls will not if inside a property. So you get the text notification to your mobile that you "missed" the voice call but of course are unable to make a voice call to retrieve the message.

Hi 5 Every one, I'm shocked that Lloyds can manage to offer 'Business' customers the litte card readers but not lowly consumer customers.The issue with telephone based authentication is that half the calls that I get are from 'Amazon' or a 'delivery'Or look up google news loads of people get caught by scams using a phone of some sort.I'm not against phones in them selves, in part, land line based phones the cost go up by eye watering amounts when general inflation is around 2% and Bank base rate is under 1%. I believe that mobile contracts in the teany weany print hide annual price rises of 4% plus. How many companies give junior staff that sort of pay rise. The introduction of two factor authentication is indeed a regulatory requirement, but there is plenty of latitude regarding chosen methods and techniques, so there isn't a standardised approach across all players. When this was all being announced a couple of years ago I tried to round up a summary of the differing models being supported by each bank, but haven't kept it updated in more recent times:
