EA’s have our details, yet no calls . If EA’s called . May be possible to view the next day. I agree life is not fair. Would ask how to get on phone or notification list with EA’s ?
When did you last pro-actively call them, and say "It's a pity I missed this one, but is there was anything similar in your pipeline?"?2 -

We had this once when we were moving locally - such a popular area that sometimes we'd book a viewing for a few days time and it would sell before our viewing. If you're moving to an area like that from afar, you either need to be able to drop everything and view on very short notice or, if that's not possible, go stay for a week as others have said and tell EAs "We HAVE to find a house this week - we want to view what's available".
The alternative as someone else said is to rent (assuming there are houses to rent in the area - we did a 300 mile relocation and rented initially but it was more stressful than we thought it would be as there are very few rentals here), get settled and really get to know where's good to live, where the local traffic hotspots are, etc, and then buy.
You need to be really proactive and phone the EAs you're registered with a couple of times a week, just to say "We're really desperate to find somewhere - we've got a buyer waiting - do you have anything new coming on?" Don't wait for them to call you.1 -

I'm not sure that it's always that the EA has called people ahead...
We're moving to the next town, hopefully, so have been viewing houses there. The average house is selling in under two days. We're registered with one agent that will give you a heads up that something is coming onto the market, but the main one in the area doesn't, to make it "fair"... so it's a scramble to book a viewing when you get an email with a house you want to see in, and they're usually under offer 24/48 hours later.
We went to see a house that was listed last Friday morning at 6pm, and they'd had a string of viewings from 3pm, every 15 minutes. The Estate Agent called us at 10pm on Friday about offers, and there were five of us that made offers. And Friday was a bank holiday!
Being 3.5 hours away may well be a big problem if it's that buoyant... and your options then would I suppose be for one of you to come and stay local to do viewings for a bit, to move into rented for a while, or to wait until after the stamp duty holiday incase that slows things down.Signature down for maintenance :rotfl:0 -

I think the cost of moving twice might be less than you think - certainly on the scale of house move costs. It might be worth asking a removal company for comparative costs of a direct move compared to one with furniture storage in the middle. How often do potential properties come up? You might need to book trips on speculation and get the estate agents to show you everything they have, or even for you to spend time in the area without your partner so you are on the spot for viewings. If properties tend to be listed early in the week then making the trips early in the week would be wise. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.
