I must be doing something wrong.

When I click on the link, there is a limited selection, a few old films and mostly cartoons.

You may be onto something if there is a contradiction in the offer t&c's - the email specifically states that you can choose between more than 4000 films and there seem to be a lot less than 4000 films in the link, I haven't counted them by the way 😄

Thanks, but I'm not sure that's actually the issue, as it's available in SD and HD for £5.49 too. For comparison, 'Unhinged' is UHD, HD and SD for £4.45 and IS listed.
Sorry, my mistake, Tenet is not included because the rental costs £5.49. I just noticed that the terms and conditions say that the cost of the rental must be less than £5.49.

Unfortunately, they also seem to rule out stacking codes or using them as part payment.

Unless things have changed, with the films I have rented, using the Lloyds code, anything above a fiver is charged to the registered card.
Sorry I chose these vouchers because there is absolutely nothing available to my liking. Not used the codes at all the last four months.

If i use a different browser and do not use the supplied link, I get thousands of films etc.

I then put in the code for the film I want and confirm.

It then says error. As below?

    Oops! There's been an error!

The Balrog has been freed! Use the light of Galadriel to go back to the homepage and discover our hord of movies and series. If you believe there's been a mistake, please contact our customer service at help-uk@rakuten.tv

I try again and its back to a few old films and children's stuff. If I use the supplied link the same.

Not used it at all. Waste of effort?

    We don't use any link.

We choose a film by browsing the website or the Rakuten app on a tablet.  There are 1000s.

Having chosen one we select it in the app (on which we're already logged in) on a tablet, enter one of the codes manually (we get 3 per month between us) and cast it to a tv via chromecast.

That's the way I assumed it should work.

But if I do same as you, and look at the 1000s and select enter code it comes up with the Balrog error?

If I use the link supplied in the email. I can choose an old film or kids cartoon from the very limited selection available.

I just search a film I wanna watch on my MacBook it will tell me if I have to pay anything, If I do I move onto another film I wanna watch
  • We signed up to this as we usually went for the cinema vouchers.  We didn't think this was any good, could only watch old films which we were not interested in.  Certainly will be changing our options next October.

I last watch the spy who dumped me with the Rakuten code was a really good film,

U just gotta search for newer films if you wanna watch one
  • We found Rakuten to be really terrible. If you have any other streaming service, then I cannot overstate how much this benefit from Club Lloyds was really the very worst option!

Essentially, the films to choose from are generally old and probably also available on your other streaming platform, you don't get access to most of the films (and from what I can see, even the full repertoir of Rakuten is not that good anyway), Rakuten's UX is appalling, and the whole thing just feels cheap.

To give an example of how bad it is, a single BFI film per year would be a better choice than this.

We will be going for the cinema tickets this year!

  • I agree and regret choosing the option. My monthly codes are just not used because the available content is poor unless one wishes to pay extra on top of the £5 value.
