I have been receiving a lot of spam email in the last couple of weeks, my email address is @googlemail.com my internet provider is BT
the spam looks like !!!!!! dating etc, I do not know how it got through as the email they have sent it through to does not  quite match my email address. I have taken pains to report it to the report gov site but they dont seem to have stopped them or taken down the sites,

in one day I received 155 email. I dread opening my email through my microsoft office outlook as I have another email address and Hubby's. I have even got an email with BT now and moved most contacts to there, Is there any other way to stop these, it takes me so long to report them as fishing to the Government

In the past I have tried blocking but tht deosnt seem to work and I read somewhere if you do that some of the companies know and send you more emails. All the messages go automatically into Junk email.

I didnt want to go down the road of using BT mail incase I switch but have no choice now
Thanks to all who post comps :)

The email address in the "To:" header that your mail client displays has nothing to do with where the email was actually sent to.  It usually matches, but there is no requirement imposed by the protocol that it does.

So my only hope is the Government take it down when I report it, send to report@phishing.gov.uk

The government almost certainly can't do anything, it will originate somewhere untraceable, probably sent through a compromised server somewhere in asia.  Although a lot of spammers now set up their own servers, and configure SPF, DKIM, DMARC etc correctly so their mail gets through, even though those things are intended to stop spam.

I wouldn't bother reporting it to anyone to be honest.

If it all goes into your Junk folder then what is the issue?

The sender will also have no idea if you have blocked the email or even if it goes into your Junk folder..
  • Personally I have never had as much constant junk mail as I had with BT. just unrelenting, constant bilge.
Got shut of them thanks to the advice in this thread and never looked back.
I honestly wouldn't touch their email service with a s***y stick.

Trying to open and read it in the MY BT inbox is hilarious. Wont even allow me to link it to my MacBook or iPad. I was told "oh it struggles with Apple devices". This is utter rubbish, it's like going back to 1996.
Often, it won't even allow you to view messages from the same sender if that person sent more than one in a day. Screwed up a couple of work contact discussions for me, so never again.

My friend also experiencing similar issue with them recently. Suddenly won't accept any of his email passwords on iPad and Mac.

The type of junk I was receiving included fake BT emails, cheap vodka, bank and PayPal related fishing.

Never had this much crap with any other provider or service. Never had any with Virgin Media in over 12 years. To say we all get junk mail is a cop out - this is something else.

It is a real pain having to check all the junk mail just incase an important mail goes into junk by mistake

I have never resorted to using an ISP email account precisely for the reason you state.

I would just open a new Gmail account (you can have more than one) but use an obscure name/title when doing so.
