Installing a gas hob in quartz above a drawer unit

Hello,

I am going to be purchasing a new kitchen soon from DIY Kitchens and wanted to go with 20mm quartz, however a gas hob manufacturer I was looking at (Neff) specify worktops must be 30mm. Are there gas hobs out there that will work with 20mm quartz and will the drawers all be functioning? I don't want a top fake drawer.

I’m interested in this too, my husband has had an icd fitted which means we will replace our induction hob for a gas one when we redo the kitchen

My AEG gas hob is sitting in a 20mm quartz worktop. No problems.

But it's an oven below, rather than a drawer.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Our last one was something basic like an Electrolux in a 20mm worktop.  I think the only thing we had to do was cut out part of the back of the drawer.  Not enough to affect its function though.

It's electric hobs that are more of a problem as they are deeper.

That said, We have two deep pan drawers under our new induction hob and it's not a problem at all.  I keep the pans in them, which is the perfect location 😉

It would be easier to rejig the design slightly than cross your fingers.

There might be a problem if there is a concealed cutlery drawer in the unit below the hob.  We have one which works well, but we do have thick worktops.

Yes the plan is for a cutlery drawer directly below the hob and pan drawers below the cutlery drawer

Our AEG hob is fitted in 20mm quartz and has not been an issue. Directly below is quite a deep drawer however.

I was led to believe that the additional cost of 30mm quartz is only marginal vs 20mm, in my case no more than a couple of hundred for a large surface area.

I have two deep pan drawers, no cutlery tray there.  Remember that the cutlery drawer also affects the depth of pan drawers.  They need to be deep to get a good stack going.

That said, I think you'll get the hob in.  I must have done it countless times in other people's kitchens.

The cutlery tray does reduce the height of the space in the top pan drawer but it's really just a case of working out what pans go in which drawer.  I have frying pans, jugs etc in the top one and saucepans and other deeper items in the lower one.
  • We didn't have room for a cutlery tray under a Neff induction hob in a 20mm worktop - just 2 big pan drawers.
