Also been the pub twice though just for drinks which was another £72.

Sounds like a good couple of sessions ! Especially if it was in Wetherspoons  :)

Unfortunately was the local village pub £4.50 for a pint of moretti so we had 4 pints each on both occasions
You live in a village in the North West , so why pay over the odds for a pint of Eurofizz, when you could have had a  foaming pint of the locally produced real ale ( with a big head on it ) for probably a third less in price ?
You could have had £25 left from that £72 !

We have a lovely pub on our daily walking route. when we go later I really like the idea of breaking up the walk, sitting in the sun  having first pint of draught beer since August. Trouble is it's one of those pubs with ideas above it's station, that thinks it's a restaurant and can charge restaurant prices. Might use my cashback credit card. It won't come out of my account till end of next month or maybe the month after so I might have forgotten about it by then.

I usually have a lovely pint of Directors but they have stopped doing it and for the record all the ales are around the £4 mark there as well :open_mouth: , there is a local sports club which do a nice ale at £3 but only open at weekends.

Great thread. Thank you so much gambleruk for your post - I'm in very similar circumstances to you but am still currently working part time and not enjoying it one bit.  My plan was to retire at 53-54 ish but I am actually taking time during a week off to seriously consider handing my notice in soon! It's a daunting and scary step but your insight and obvious happiness is inspiring to me.
How old are you now?  If you don't mind me asking.

I had planned to retire at 55 but life gets in the way, lost my husband when l was 50 he was 52 luckily he worked for the NHS and they provided a pension and a large lump sum for me and a small pension for my daughter till 25. I bought my first BTL and life was good and l reached the year l planned to retire on my BTL income and my daughter decides she wants to move into it. Plans put on hold to retire fast ward 2 years to now looking at finishing work again she decides to buy a house. You get the idea the bank of mum comes to the rescue and why not ? There is only so much money you can spend and it will all be hers when l pop off, l would rather see her enjoy it now If everything works out when l die she will have nigh on that must hv figure people seem obsessed with a million but so what.

    Count down to retirement 2023

Another in the soon to be 51 camp and wondering if I should adjust my number to my current circumstances.  With so many years ahead (hopefully) there are issues like:
    • what to plan for on longevity of self and spouse as 2 x full state pensions make up 60% of our modelled post SPA income
    • what about the risk of divorce (no plans currently but 40 more years is twice as long as we have been married so far)
    • would I be happy with the current number standard of living for life or would I regret not working longer and having a higher standard of living
    • is SWR really safe over 40+ years despite what the models say
    I think....
