Tui cancel or reschedule

We have a holiday booked for 22.05.21 (originally booked July 2020) but, as it is only 5 days after the possible allowing of international travel we are unsure about going and want to change the dates to next year. Simple enough under Tui's fee free changes at the moment. But if we do not go in May 2021, 2 of the party will not be able to go so I will be able to change dates but will be charged cancellation fees (£1400) for the 2 not going and these fees are increasing all the time we get closer to the supposed departure date, with Tui's standard terms and conditions.
Question. Can I move the dates of the original booking for 5 people to June 2022 but then cancel the whole holiday or the 2 that can't go and only lose the deposit of £375 (maybe another £625)?

TUI are offering some of the most flexible terms at the moment. Details on their website.
To your specific question I really think this is something to ask TUI about. I might however be tempted to wait until this time next week when details of the Government's Travel Task Force report will be hopefully known. TUI will know more then as well.1 -
Agree with @Westin it's worth getting in touch with TUI.
I have a feeling that the 2 that want to cancel will be subject to standard cancellation terms, which this near the holiday will be a lot (and as you say increasing the nearer you get). Still worth asking TUI though.
It will be a gamble, but you may want to wait and see if TUI have to cancel, which would mean a full refund. Consider where your holiday is and if that country are likely to allow tourism, it's not just what the UK Government decide.1 -
Thank you for your replies. My nerves couldn’t wait any longer so I contacted Tui and made sure that if I moved the holiday free of charge until a date in 2022 and then had to cancel would the booking have t&c’s for the new date and, therefore, only lose the original deposit. They confirmed that so that is what I have done and only lost the £1,000 deposit. Damage limitation.0

If the booking had been with BA the OP wouldn't even have paid the balance yet just a small deposit.
At this stage and up to three weeks before departure they could have cancelled and got the deposit back in the form of a voucher.
I had a USA Holiday with TUI booked for May 17th Departure and the only reason I was able to cancel and get a full refund was because my Hotel was closed. Had that not been the case I would have still been hanging on waiting on the Government decision about travel.
The balance had to be paid three months before travel not three weeks and there was no option to cancel at that stage penalty free like there would be with BA.0 -
Yes. Compared with many.
As the OP already booked with TUI your comments about BA have no relevance.

We really need to know where they were going.0 -
The OP has sorted the issue anyway so why is it important to know where they were going?0
