Bush TV broken after 16 months

The TV was only £200 but I'm loathed to buy a new one when it should have really lasted longer than it has. Esp as it's in a bedroom so hardly used
Thanks

It's a bit tight of them but perfectly fine.Bush like many former names (was Bush ever respectable?) is just a name shoved on whatever cheep chinese factories output when argos needs new stock. Every restock is a new model There are no repairs. But that is how it is at that end of the market. You can go down the route but unless it catagoricaly says manufacturing error you are just at a loss. And even if it does then you still are not getting a new TV. I would think £100 + cost of report is all you could hope for. (people may say more but I think such a tv is built to last around 3 years).Next time go for a real brand. Still plenty of cheap options there. I have luck with cheap LGs for people (not without issues, like the need to turn of auto retune on freeview unless you regularly want it to lose all channels) that I provide tech for.Hardly used is completely irrelivant though. And can often make things worse. (Though can't see it would in this situation).Good lukc if you go that way but they would have to find something and that's going to be a tough call on the backlight. I would curese argos and stop using their own brands.0

OP count the cost .Independent report circa £60 ( refunded if case proven )TV refund circa £100 or they can replace or repair .0

I started working in the Radio and TV servicing early seventies. Bush were the rubbish brand back then.Provided the OP has not physically damaged her tv, i.e., dropped it, she should get the report cost back plus a percentage of the tv price. Definitely worth going for.
These cheap tv’s are made of poor-quality components and screens not built to last any length of time. A tv should last 7 years minimum before the picture quality may start to deteriorate ,that is with average usage.

The failure could be due to something that doesn't show up as physical damage to the TV such as moisture ingress or damage caused by an electrical surge (lightning for example) or it could have been knocked over which caused something to come loose without actually breaking anything.
This is why the retailer has the legal right to ask the customer to get a report stating exactly what the fault is and the likely cause of that fault.0 -
Hi, didn't you get a warranty or a guarantee? I bought a TV in Jan 2020 from Richer Sounds and it came with a free 6 year guarantee to cover such things as you mention. My TV is a Linsar, which I'd never heard of before but so far so good. It was cheap which is why I bought it but with the long guarantee I felt even if it went wrong, I've lost nothing. Having learned from past mistakes, I'd only really buy such items from places such as Richer Sounds or John Lewis now.
It seems that Argos can (and often do) ask customers to provide an independent specialist report and submit same to them but televisions are expected to last for at least six years, and more if they aren't used a lot.
There's an almost identical thread on this forum about a Bush TV purchased from Argos here -

It's a shame that you didn't see this before you bought your TV. I hope you can get it sorted to your satisfaction.
