Hi can anyone advise whether I should hang on to the US dollars i have from my travel in February last year?
We moved house on my return and I have only just found the left over currency.
I have coped without using it and can do so for longer,.ideally I would wait for the best time. I just haven't a clue what a good rate is?
Any advise would be appreciated thank you.

How much are you talking?
exchange rates are usually rubbish for changing back to Sterling. Can you not keep them for next time you go away? Or sell them to someone you know who is going? With you saying left over currency, it might not be worth it.0 -
Another option would be to hold them until you go on holiday anywhere and then exchange them for local currency. This would save you the exchange rate of USD to GBP and then for instance GBP to Euro. In other words just straight from USD to Euro.0

I would agree with Dvnfermling.
I have also used USD$ as currency in many non USD$ currency countries over the years, particularly African continent and Asia but nearer to home in Turkey.

Thanks for the advise. Its just over $600 so maybe keeping for the next trip is the way forward.0

Personally I am betting on the pound falling against the dollar (and Euro) in the next 18 months, but the markets do not seem to agree with me. As others have said, you will pay more in transaction costs if you exchange your dollars here than if you use them in another country, so save them until then (unless the pound really does fall at a time when you need pounds).

Another option is to find someone who wants dollars. That way you could do the deal at the spot rate not the buy/sell rates an exchange company will use.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.
