I check mine each year with confused.com, and if changing saves me £25+ then I change it. if its below £25 I stay where I am. that's my srtatergy. others may do it differently.0

May not Switch, but check the market before accepting the Renewal priceMartins advice is to check the Comparison sites 21 days prior to the renewal date. and strangely in the order of, 1 Moneysupermarket2 Confused dotcom 3 Gocompare 4 Compare the market - Very odd, but it seems to work0

Even if you don't change insurers, it's worth calling them up when you get the renewal details and advising them that you have found a more competitive price elsewhere and asking if they could do anything with your renewal quote.cattom said:I check mine each year with confused.com, and if changing saves me £25+ then I change it. if its below £25 I stay where I am. that's my srtatergy. others may do it differently.
I've done this a few times and so far they have never failed to lower the figure.1

I've done this a few times and so far they have never failed to lower the figure. If they can lower the price, then they could have offered that price originally. That seems to me to be unethical, and treating their customers as mugs.I don't really want to do business with such a company

I do a comparison every year (and have NEVER, in the past 10 years, used the same company in consecutive years).#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3661

I check my price against others and see which is best, along with whether it's a significant saving against my time to swap.

Of course it's unethical, it's insurance companies being discussed and ethics don't seem to be a particularly high priority with any of them.Car_54 said:David713 said:

Provided I can negotiate the price down to what I consider to be an acceptable sum, I don't see any reason to continually change who I insure my vehicle with.
What they are doing is pretty much standard with insurers, ISP's, breakdown cover providers etc (and probably quite a few other service companies).1

I check and compare every year, and give or take £10, if there are cheaper quotes (with companies I recognise), I swap.NB not had to do it for the last couple of years as my current insurer have been competative..."It's everybody's fault but mine...."0

Go through all the comparison sites every year, as per Martin's flow chart. Then, probably will switch - but give my existing provider the opportunity to price match. Obviously have to compare like with like in the level of cover and excess. The force is strong in this one!0

We check every year and ALWAYS ensure it is NOT auto renew.
We changed ours a couple of years ago. In the past we stayed with xx insurance but last year when I rang them and told them I was going to look elsewhere, they often gove a 20/30 off but not last year so I looked and saved a few hundred between me and Mr J inc the cashback site cash the total saved was a few hundred for the two policys .
This year, like the car insurance we have the buildings coming up for renewal and they put it up every year and we ring and get a few quid off and sta there but no auto renew. This year we are both seeing who can get a cheaper quote with a well known ins co and already a quick search via cashback site is saving real money, we shall see.0
