How to know if a new sofa will fit through my doors..?!

Hi guys,
So I am looking at sofas online and have seen a couple of nice ones in the SCS sale.... however... it says obviously it's my responsibility to ensure that the thing will fit into mt home - I measured the back door and then the door into the lounge, and the narrowest is 68cm - yet there are no sofas that height or smaller, they're all around the 85-90cm high range!

Does this just mean I can't order a new sofa? Bit confused how other people manage it, I didn't think my doors were THAT narrow...?!  :disappointed:

I did call SCS but they were less than helpful, they just said it's up to me to check it will fit and if it doesn't when they try to deliver, they take it back and then I have to arrange an upholsterer to maybe remove part(s) from the sofa at my own cost. Which is fair enough, just curious how big other people's doorways are who have successfully had sofas delivered!

if you have a PCV window into the living room, it's quite easy to pop the beads off and then remove the glass. you'll need a paint scraper to get them off, and block of wood to knock them back on

from the inside ;) , funny you say that though a workmate who's older than me seems to remember the early PVC windows in the 80's apparently had the beads on the outside before they realised the mistake!
don't know how true that is but I can believe it!

Have a look on their website or on dfs. There will be a measuring guide.  My recliner  sofa came in 2 parts.   And your sofa will probably go through the door at an angle.
If scs aren't willing to help, I'd take your business elsewhere

I’m sure they’ll manage. I’ve had worries about that before. Usually they get them in at an angle. I’ve had the feet taken off to get them in sometimes, and even had stuff taken jn through a big open window. They din’t usually stick
  • What I've done in the past is drawn up a plan of where its going, with dimensions, then asked them if it will fit.  One said "yes", then it wouldn't, and they part dismantled and rebuilt at no charge.

This was a worry for me as our hallway is very narrow - literally the width of the front door, so there's no space either side of the door for manoeuvring it in at an angle. I went for a recliner as they come in separate parts, so there's no issue getting them in.

They can’t always manage though. I’ve seen threads on here before where settees won’t get in the door - OP is right to try and check,

Very true. My brother was burgled about 15 years back by thieves entering the back garden in the middle of the night and popping the external beading off of a large window in the kitchen to remove the glass.  They only got away with a few portable electronics and my SIL’s handbag, as my brother and his wife were in the habit of bolting the kitchen door shut on the hall side during the night.  They swiftly had a new window fitted with internal beading!

  • I had this problem. Never measured and sofa arrived. It had to come in at an angle and they removed the feet. My gap is width of a front door and narrow. Took a few attempts to manoeuvre it round to get in and took some of wallpaper off in the hallway/stairs but got it in eventually.
