Are covid fines for travelling out of your area legally enforceable in court?

Since March 29, in England, you can travel any distance to meet as a group of upto 6 people/ 2 households for any reason. You can’t stay overnight with people not in your bubble.lisyloo said:
People are also allowed to travel for various reasons.dee100 said:Someone told me that if I did not pay the fine, it will be thrown out of court. He said not one person has been successfully fined in court. However, I cannot find any searches that verify this. Do you know where I can find out that what he said is true?
I see holiday makers here from other countries!!I am not allowed to leave my town whilst tourists are coming to UK and freely travelling around the UK!!

I went two counties over yesterday. Journey was just under 5 miles.AntoMac said:
I’m travelling more than 11.3 miles today to see mother in law for the first time in ages, following the March 29 rule changes. We will be meeting outside within the rule of 6.dee100 said:I want to travel 11.3 miles to nearest small city. because I like to get away from my tiny town
I saw over 50 people today who likely travelled further then that to get to my town..
will stop and ask more people tomorrow. A couple said they were from elsewhere in the county, how far, I don't know...
If the couple you spoke to were from elsewhere in the county that should be OK. Counties vary greatly in size of course e.g. Rutland is tiny compared to Yorkshire. I’ll actually be going into the next county but that’s allowed now.As long as you stay within the rules I can’t see how you would be stopped and fined for travelling that distance.

The number of people barrelling out my road — LA boundary is at the end of it, this weekend suggests that the guidelines are more being honoured in the breach. And the nearest essential shops etc out that way are quite a bit more than five miles away, although the speed many are going might not make it seem that far and they can’t all be headed to the big granny farm that lies a couple of miles out!0

I posted recently that I could take a five minute bike ride and have been in three London Boroughs during that trip. I took a walk today and crossed the boundary of my London Borough and one of the Home Counties. I've realised that I could actually travel through three London Boroughs and one of the Home Counties in under 15 minutes.wannabe_a_saver said:I went two counties over yesterday. Legal as UK nationals can’t be refused entry to the UK.Mickey666 said:Some friends live in Spain, their daughter lives in UK (all are UK nationals) and had a baby last week. The new grandmother flew over from Spain to visit her new grandchild. The only requirement before leaving Spain was to present a negative covid test (done) and on entering the UK she had to give an address where she would be isolating for 10 days and told to get two further covid tests on day 2 and day 8. She gave her daughter's address and is staying there for the duration of her stay, when she will return to Spain. She has already been telephoned by someone checking up that she's at said address and not going out, albeit just verbal confirmation.Presumably all of that is perfectly legal since various authorities (in both countries) are involved and are fully aware of her travel and at no time have suggested it's contrary to any regulations. Meanwhile, we're all supposed to 'stay local' under threat of being fined?
3 covid tests at her own expense, 1 prior to arrival, then at day 2 and 8. If the one prior to arrival was positive, obviously she wouldn’t be allowed on the plane. If the ones on day 2 or day 8 are positive then she and the household will have to isolate for 10 days.
while she is here, she will need to isolate at her daughter’s for 10 days, though she could have yet another test on day 5 to be released early. Once in the UK she has to follow UK rules.
We all have guidance to stay local, not law; no one is being fined for keeping to the law.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. seems fairly major to me with little chance of transmission.
whats your issue with that? (Personally I think any public transport journey from the airport is a bit of an issue but I guess it’s a trade-off).0 -
I can walk through 3 London Boroughs in 5 mins where I live - right at the point where they all meetTheShape said:

Looking at a map of the London Boroughs, there are actually quite a number of places where three borough's meet and a few places where 4 borough boundaries either meet or are very close.2childmum2 said:

A pretty short walk could take you through/into Islington, Camden, Westminster, Lambeth, Southwark and City of London.0 -
You know everyone on the street in that small city, and can determine that 50 of the unusual faces were from another part of a county? I'd have thought the couple you spoke to were suspicious of you as you then struggled to calculate the distance they travelled in the county. Perhaps they were doing exactly what you were, travelling outside there immediate area to do something they cant back home.dee100 said:I want to travel 11.3 miles to nearest small city. because I like to get away from my tiny town

Some people in my county have had to travel 30 miles for a vaccine, far from locals or known in the town they got the jab. Should I ask them why they're lounging around on street benches with cups of tea waiting to catch the two hourly bus home.
Ask the government why they cut and centralise services, allow Banks/Post Offices to close, shut schools and then reduce the bus funding to a pittance meaning many need to hang around for hours and risk getting dirty looks and questioned off the locals0 -
Largely because a lot of services do not need a local branch or office, so there is cost saving to the taxpayer and it would be reasonable to expect private enterprise to shoulder the cost of keeping bank and Post Office branches open when there is little demand.marmite1979 said:Ask the government why they cut and centralise services, allow Banks/Post Offices to close,
Due to the very low demand for branches banks are even investigating the option of multi-brand branches, where all the local banks would consolidate into one branch which offered counter services on behalf of them all, however they are unsure how to work out splitting the cost (on a customer usage basis, fixed fee etc.) as well as issues with all the different banks running independent IT systems.
The pandemic has proven that many people can work from home, a lot (although not all) meetings can be done online (from regular meetings, interviews and even government services), even some basic GP appointments can be conducted online (hopefully freeing up in-practice time for those that can not). There are very few reasons to need bank branches any more, I have not used one in years, 58% of people visit less than once a year, only 16% of people visit once a month or more and 99.75% of those visits could be accomplished online. The only regular visitors with limited other options are cash handling businesses and cash is a relic, with more than 90% of businesses who currently accept cash looking to phase it out within five years and 96% wanting to actively discourage it's use.0
