Co-op Insurance

I have been with Co-op insurance for contents, building and car for over 15 years.

I know that is unusual for a MSE member, but checked quote annually and it was always cheaper or same ball park as alternatives so never bothered switching as quite happy with service. It was only ever the potential cashback that was the real  difference. This may be due to my combination of optional extras and voluntary excesses. I have no idea really. I have never claimed so could have saved without the extras but I prefer to have them.
This year however I have halved the total costs, saving over £500 in total across car, buildings and contents. Partly due to massive hikes by Co-op, partly due to cheaper alternatives.
This I imagine is related to CO-OP selling their underwriting business. The old CIS as-was is no longer and policies are underwritten by a range of insurers, so are just a resale brand now.
Looks like I will finally be joining all other MSEers on the annual policy change merry-go-round.
Just wondered if any other Co-op Insurance customers have experienced similar.

  • Have to say that I also have left the Co-operative Insurances, after having terrible service from them after a house fire, their chosen loss adjusters delivered such poor standard of service, to the point I felt as though I was under suspicion of fraud.  It was not a good experience to go through, plus I am still finding things wrong in the property after the claim is now closed.
Re Car Renewal:  My first car insurance renewal was way above all those on the comparison sites.  Then they sent  a second revised renew policy  stating the first was high due to an error with their system but this was no better.
Co-op are not doing themselves any favors with their contact details either, an email address is given over automated phone chat for those wishing to cancel their car insurance.  It is blabbed at speed by the voice artist and even after listening to the message numerous times i could not make it out.  Bad show for a company that prides itself on being  inclusive.   This message is so incomprehensible it excludes many who listen to it.  I eventually spoke with a call handler to cancel the policy and mentioned the matter of the email address, he told me that he was sure this had previously been drawn to the societies attention.   Enough said.
