A tapered reaming tool would also do the trick

Given the size and odd shapes of bumpers and general inaccessibility behind them, not sure that's really practical ?
Take the bumper skin off, then...

It's quite often very quick and simple to remove the skin. Makes it a lot easier to sort the holes neatly.

  • Whilst the power plug/socket was the same type - it was wired opposite so could not  just plug in had to swap lead over

This one looks pretty much like mine, in that there's a power port, a display port and then A-D ports.

What's likely to happen if it doesn't work (just simply switching out the old box for new)? Is it likely to just simply not work or is it more likely to blow something & cause more issues?

You can't just switch it out since it has the power connections reversed

It seems from the cable colours that the + and -  are swapped between those 2 unit  ( just like in my case )
So you would need to cut the Red and Black wires and swap them over at some point

  • Ahh I see what you're saying now.

Or just look for a listing that shows the wiring in the order that matches mine?

That’s not a factory fit. And looks like it’s been in water.
It probably not fused, disconnect power and have a look inside for water damage, also check where it was located for wetness you could have a water leak.

if all fails then trace the power cables back and make sure they are fused and replace the unit they all seem to have the same plugs. Also check the splice where it’s joined to the reverse light, make sure it’s not a twist and tape job and that it has a good clean earth.
