Medical repatriation

Hi, has anyone had experience of medical repatriation for themselves or a family member? My brother is stuck in Thailand with severe injuries but has no travel insurance. We are trying to find a reliable company.

My sympathies, but I hope for your brother's sake that your family have deep pockets.

Sorry for your family's predicament.Maybe the local British Embassy or Consulate could help or advise.0

Likely limited to just handing out a copy of the list of aeromed companies from the above link.martindow said:Sorry for your family's predicament.Maybe the local British Embassy or Consulate could help or advise.0 -
Sorry for your situation and hope you can get him home soon. Possibly a timely reminder, with the possibility of foreign travel in the near future, of the importance of insurance. We don't know why your brother doesn't have insurance, so I am not intending this as a direct comment on his situation.0

Disappointing, as insurance is available even when outside the country.
Perhaps he was uninsured for another reason.0 -
Thanks for all the comments - we have been in touch with the Foreign Office. A lovely woman who, unfortunately, could not do much but direct us. My brother was living in Thailand as an early retiree, hence no travel insurance. I was hoping for anyone's experience really.0

Is he receiving free medical care, or does he have to pay?
Was he planning on living there permanently, for ever, or was the plan always to come back to the UK when he was even older?
Is he on his own, or with a partner or other family? How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -
Sorry to hear of your predicament.
Medical care at the best hospitals in Bangkok is excellent, for most purposes at least as good as that provided by the NHS. And while it is certainly not cheap, treatment there would probably cost less than a medical evacuation.

Travel insurance wouldn't have covered him anyway if he's living there. Why does he want medical repatriation?volorg said:Thanks for all the comments - we have been in touch with the Foreign Office.
