O2 SIM only - how to leave early without penalty.
Are you on a 12, 18 or 24 month SIM only contract with O2 and want to leave before the end of your term to avoid paying the RPI increase?
Well this little nugget should help you out and you can be O2 free in a few days and with only 30 days to pay for, read on to find out how....
It turns out the quickest way to leave mid term with O2 is to UPGRADE! Yes, upgrade..
if you log in to your O2 account (online or through app) you may see the big thumb and the words “Good news, you can upgrade today”.
So, go ahead and hit the upgrade button, when you see the list of available upgrade SIM options use the filter and select 30 day SIMS - not the 12 or 24 month versions, just the 30 day options.
Pick the cheapest one - and ‘upgrade’ your account.
You’ll get some emails and texts whilst the system does what it needs to and then you’ll get the ‘Success’, email.
You are now on a 30 day contract - it might lose you data, or cost a little more but that is only temporary as you are now free to leave with 30 days notice.
As the process of getting a PAC code is done over text, you don’t even need to speak to anyone, and you’re good to go.
The text does say that if your on SIM only you will need to phone them first, I didn’t and it still worked.
It also tells you how much your final bill will be if you leave now, which is handy
One final bill from O2 and you’re free of that long contract and their horrendous RPI+ increase by simply ‘upgrading’.
2 days ago I had until August 22 to go before contract end, today my contract has ended...bonus!
I’m now on a much better deal elsewhere with no penalty for leaving O2 early.
If they catch wind of this they might close this loophole so get in quick!
Cheers
