Why is Churchill asking me to contact them?
I received a letter from them reminding me to renew my car insurance which expires in a couple of days time. I've already renewed but with another insurer.
They state on the letter that if I don't wish to renew with, then for me to call them.
I don't see the point in doing that. What would happen if I didn't?
Will I be penalised in some way re. any future insurance I either take with them or with another insurer if I don't get in touch?
Thanks.

If you don't phone them the insurance will auto-renew.Conrad3000 said:Hi all.

To tell them that you do not wish to renew, in theory it should not cause any issues, but it might throw something up, just make the two minute phone call and tell them you do not want to renew, problem solved.Conrad3000 said:Hi all.

Then they won't have an opportunity to offer you a better price and perhaps keep your custom. Or have you already had such a conversation with them?Conrad3000 said:I don't see the point in doing that. What would happen if I didn't?1 -

I really don't like making a call because I've a feeling they'll try their utmost to keep me with them. I just can't be bothered having that kind of conversation to be honest.MattMattMattUK said:

Nope. I've just been ignoring their requests to renew. I'm just going to leave it. I can't really see what negative consequences there'll be if I don't get in touch. I mean, I've taken out the insurance with another provider and everything is fine from their end.davidmcn said:

I've not selected the auto-renew option.
Was it an option or the default?
The renewal letter is required to tell you what to do next if you do or do not wish to renew. That is in part to protect you as a consumer and also to protect the provider if you ignore the instruction.
I don't see the point in doing that. What would happen if I didn't?If the renewal notice says they will automatically renew then that is what they will do. Then you have a whole world of hassle you could have avoided.

This is what the renewal letter says :dunstonh said:I've not selected the auto-renew option. Was it an option or the default?

You can ignore their requests but if they still have your payment details, they can still renew. It's easier to phone them and end it before they take anything, in which case you'll have to start to try to get your money back which is a much bigger hassle than just phoning them and telling them no, thanks, you've gone elsewhere. You do NOT have to engage in any discussions with them about renewing with them. Just tell them you do not want to renew and when they ask why say you've gone elsewhere, thank you very much. Goodbye. It's not a problem. However, if they auto renew anyway, which they may, it is a lot of bother. Believe me, I know. Been there, done that.Conrad3000 said:

Ok folks; I bit the bullet and rang them. Call lasted about a minute and it was all over 🤓1
