Can anyone help this technophobe with a hyperlink problem. I have been trying to insert a hyperlink into a Word document and I can't get the hyperlink to open in the Word document. I used to be able to do this but I can't seem to get the link to work. I don't know if it is because my computer is old, think it is around 10 years old with Microsoft Office 2010 installed. I am assuming that if I buy a new computer I might be able to solve the problem, but before splashing out I though I would ask if any tech experts have any ideas/suggestions.

You need to press "Ctrl" when you click a hyperlink in Word for it to work - have you tried that?

Yes the link is showing as a blue link but when I press the Ctrl + Click it changes to a purple colour.0

Is the link a proper URL? I have just tried it in Word and it worked, in that I was able to link to this thread in MSE Forum. And the link turned to purple after I clicked on it.1

You may have already tried this but can you type the hyperlink into the document (rather than eg cut and paste) - or maybe you have already done this?2

Silly question but have you tried it with another link e.g. http://www.bbc.co.uk , in case there's something wrong with the one you're trying?2

The Word document which is a worksheet download from a college- would saving the download differently make the hyperlink work?

Floozie said: When you hover the mouse pointer over the hyperlink it does not give the browser link you have copied, it gives you the Word document reference as if it has not copied the information from the hyperlink across. If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.1
