14 day cooling off, want to switch?

Hi All,
I am with BT currently but want to switch as my speeds for my line are well below what Openreach says they should be and BT are generally unhelpful in resolving this. I am thinking of moving to Sky or Now Broadband,

I am within my 14 day cooling off period, when I spoke to BT about this they were (to be expected) unhelpful and said if I cancel within 14 days they cease service immediately. I then spoke to Zen Broadband (as was enquiring about activation) and they said if I start a switch, then cancel, it will cancel my switch and I'll have to start again.

Is there anything I can do? As it seems I am locked in with BT if I don't want a break in service.

Any help appreciated, thank you

    Not quite sure I follow.
You're with BT and you're in the cooling off period?  Cooling off for what?

If you want to move provider just pick somebody, sign up with them, and you'll be moved after 17-21 days.  The downtime on the broadband side will probably be half an hour at the absolute most if that.  You just swap the router out.

Moved house so have started a new contract, what they're saying is if i start the switch it will go through once i am in contract and therefore could suffer cancellation fees?

If the line cannot physically support faster speed or something else is causing the system to think your line only supports a slower line than you think it can, moving provider is rarely going to change this.  What you really need is to get the broadband connected tp your router and leave it on.  For 10 days minimum.  It may well be the previous owner kept turning the router off and this causes the system to think your line can't support the faster speeds.  Eventually the system will notice the line can support 8 instead of 4 or whatever and will crank it up accordingly.

As above  your move to Sky Zen or Now will use the same infrastucture .
How are you measuring the speed  At the Router   or via Ethernet cable connection ?? Via wifi does not count .

As others have said, the ISP will be using the Openreach infrastructure so you are unlikely to get better speeds by dumping BT and going with someone else as speeds are determined by the line quality and distance from the serving cabinet or exchange.

The only way to get something different is to either go with Vigin, who have their own network or see what a 4g connection might offer
