It's not for everyone but the fastest growing asset of all time, fundamentals are the same as when it started, although it is moving closer to a store of value like gold than a currency these days. With layer 2 solutions you can buy goods with it but many people would be unlikely to when they think it will appreciate further.
Put your money where your mouth is, haha what does it matter? $125 to $5k in 5 weeks is pretty good regardless. My fist 100x was in Feb this year too actually. $400 to $40k in about 12 months.
I work in the industry, the firm that I run trades 2-3m every day from crypto to fiat and vice versa, fully regulated. I have a decent chunk in BTC or butcoin (hilarious, did you come up with that yourself?) and probably 50-60% of my net worth in crypto overall. So yeah I'm pretty bullish to have 500k in a massive "gamble".
if you have invested the majority of your wealth and done well, good your gamble has taken off. I prefer less riskier ventures, and I don't even invest in Tesla for that matter.
Good luck with your stonks
It seems that most people shouting about how clever they are to own crypto have only a few Thebes of thousands in it and are laughing at the “fools” with hundreds of thousands or millions in more traditional investments.
Scroll through the posts, you won’t see me calling myself clever other than I caught a couple of coins that mooned, maybe that was skill or luck but the gains are there.
Of course when you invest in any coin, doing 100x shouldn’t even be in your thoughts but BTC as a store of value and ETH as a utility coin are pretty solid in my book.
Nobody is forcing anyone to buy any crypto but the fastest growing asset of all time is surely worth a look
Oh yeah, mustn't forget buying a few lambos
Its an incredibly volatile asset class, you can make (and lose) stupid amounts of money in very little time. So much so that once your magic internet coins become the equivalent fiat value of nice cars or houses, it gets a bit surreal.
Dont want to get accused of stroking my electronic penis again so what are you looking to hear? That i'll have a couple mill by 40 and be retired, yeah probs
I was reading your posts and it struck me you sounded confused so I guess I was trying to ask a question to help clarify your intentions/goals.
You can research crypto for as long as you want but at the end of the day it requires a leap of faith. It needs everybody to believe in crypto for it to work. It’s no good if large amounts of people don’t buy into it. You can’t predict whether that will happen. It’s anybody’s guess.
I hope it works out well for you and you make all the money you need to retire when you are 40 like you hope. What’s your plan once you’re retired? No one has ever become poor by giving0 -

It’s no good if large amounts of people don’t buy into it - False
You can’t predict whether that will happen. It’s anybody’s guess - True.
Funnily enough the market as a whole just hit a $2tn market cap today. Still small compared to say gold but not bad for some electronic money created 12 years ago.
Not overly confused, it's here to stay whether people want to invest/learn/speculate or not. If they do, happy to share some knowledge/ideas. Doubt I would retire tbh, have been building a start up for the last 2 years and used to working non-stop. Easy during Covid when you cant do anything anyway. If I didn't need to work, I guess I would travel and look for things to invest in, likely in the Crypto world.1 -
That’s how modern currencies work. A £10 note is a useless piece of fabric if large amounts of people don’t believe it’s worth £10. You need to believe other people will believe it’s worth £10, i.e. you’ll be able to use it to buy what you want. Obviously the analogy isn’t perfect, e.g. you need to pay your taxes in pounds so as long as there is a U.K. government and you want to live in U.K., you will need pounds.Scottex99 said:

Yes and no. Agree on currencies, but you have BTC at $60k without mass adoption or even knowledge of it. The average bear probably has heard of Bitcoin by now but may not know what Coinbase is or even used it. This whole thread is off of the OP talking about "Coinbase Bank" and whatever it was doing in 2008 when it didn't exist until 2013 at very earliest (guess).thegentleway said:

The whole point of many of these new assets is that they are deflationary and therefore retain value or rise in value. Money printing all fine and well to rescue governments during Covid but all that does is devalue the £ in your pocket

It’s at $60k because demand is up as some people are speculating that it will be adopted/gambling on the chance that it is adopted. The rapidly increasing price is also attracting people looking to make a quick buck etc...Scottex99 said:

The wind could easily change... People tend to be fickle.
The money printing isn’t to rescue governments, it’s to stimulate the economy out of a recession. Don’t worry, the pound has been deflating for centuries. Today's prices are 227.65 times higher than average prices since 1751 but it’s still doing great. It’s the 4th most traded currency in the world. It’s a currency benchmark for loads of countries and currency reserve due to its high value compared to other currencies. It’s also very liquid. Barring extreme events, eg nuclear holocaust, we’ll continue to use pounds.Like I said, you have to pay your taxes in pounds so there will always be demand as long as there is a U.K. government. Whereas crypto is anybody’s guess whether it becomes widely adopted or not. Therefore the price is also anybody’s guess. No one has ever become poor by giving0 -
I'm not that much of a bulltard that I'm predicting the fall of the pound or the dollar or any fiat, anytime soon. But traditionally they don't have a good track record and massive money printing, quantitative easing etc just devalues the existing circulation. Something like 12% of all USD that exists right now was printed in the last 12 months.thegentleway said:

I hope it works out well for you and you make all the money you need to retire when you are 40 like you hope. What’s your plan once you’re retired?
It’s no good if large amounts of people don’t buy into it - False
The whole point of many of these new assets is that they are deflationary and therefore retain value or rise in value. Money printing all fine and well to rescue governments during Covid but all that does is devalue the £ in your pocket
So if I was going to stash £10k under my bed or £10k of BTC in my ledger, I know which one I'm choosing.
The winds have already changed for crypto multiple times, people in the industry know that pretty much. From less than a cent to $20k then back to $3k (BITCOIN IS DEAD) to $60k. I dont like the cycle predictions but it does have some truth and we're very very early. If you can handle the volatility or hedge against it, then it's a good medium to long term play imo.

Obviously it’s your £10k so you can do what you want with it but comparing cash (steadily depreciates ~2%) to crypto (volatile AF) is a bit silly... anyway, good luck to you, hope you make lot of money.Scottex99 said:
I'm not that much of a bulltard that I'm predicting the fall of the pound or the dollar or any fiat, anytime soon. But traditionally they don't have a good track record and massive money printing, quantitative easing etc just devalues the existing circulation. Something like 12% of all USD that exists right now was printed in the last 12 months.thegentleway said:
It’s at $60k because demand is up as some people are speculating that it will be adopted/gambling on the chance that it is adopted. The rapidly increasing price is also attracting people looking to make a quick buck etc...Scottex99 said:
That’s how modern currencies work. A £10 note is a useless piece of fabric if large amounts of people don’t believe it’s worth £10. You need to believe other people will believe it’s worth £10, i.e. you’ll be able to use it to buy what you want. Obviously the analogy isn’t perfect, e.g. you need to pay your taxes in pounds so as long as there is a U.K. government and you want to live in U.K., you will need pounds.Scottex99 said:

You said the intention was to make money but now it’s a by-product?!Scottex99 said:
i'm happy with that and getting rich is a by-product.Billy_B_North said:
I mean exit strategy. Is it a price target that’ll decide when you start selling it and buying the cars?Scottex99 said:
What do you mean what's the intention? The same as every other investment, to make money.Billy_B_North said:
What’s the intention? It’s worthless unless spent, so at some point will you use if for property, living expenses, or other investments?Scottex99 said:
Tough work this. About 500k.Billy_B_North said:
So then how much money do you have in it?Scottex99 said:
Like I said above, I’m not arsed whether I have 5k or 500k, if anything it’s much more fun grinding in the beginning anyway. The only reason those figures are there are in response to your comments. Money is in where the mouth is.csgohan4 said:
After you've finished stroking your ep33n, I'm going to agree to disagree on this one. My risk appetite is not high enough to include Butcoin in my assets. I would be happy with my index trackers, least I know i will not be at the mercy of the Crypto gods.Scottex99 said:More of a gamble than stocks? Happy to here your reasoning why.
