What is ' a reasonable length of time' for a microwave ?

We bought a high spec microwave / grill / oven from a famous department store, which came with a 2-year guarantee.
The guarantee expired last month ... so is it my bad luck that it has just stopped working now or should a microwave last more than 2 years ?
The start button was 'iffy' for quite a while, but it always worked, just needed to push it on one end of it, but of course, it doesn't work now
I remember seeing a couple of years ago one of the EU positive items of news .. electrical goods such as TVs should last for a 'reasonable' length of time, regardless of what the warranty may say. However, what is this 'reasonable length of time' especially as far as a microwave is concerned.
thank you

6 months in this house ;-) Though that's mainly becuase I can't seem to get my partner to understand not to shut all the moisture in the microwave after using and leave the door open for a bit!To be fair they do still work but the rust if very offputting.I would also I I have foudn grill / ove nones last shorter than others as the grill/oven part often makes it impossible to clean properly.0

thank youThe UK has always had this 'reasonable' length of time enshrined in law. What is reasonable? How much was it, how often do you use it? It will be down to you to prove after 6 months that it's not user damage, but an inherent fault.

In UK law you have up to six years to claim your consumer rights.
but if a fault develops after the first six months then it is on the consumer to prove it is a manufacturing fault. If you pay for a report to be done and it is found to be a defect that would have been there from the start then the retailer must refund the report cost as well as repairing the item.0 -
Ours, bought in 1983, still works as well as it did when new. But they don't make them like that any more.2

6 months ago I ditched the one I bought in 1976 , only because it was too big to fit in the kitchen in my new house.
My other one ( I had two) is at least 20 years old and still working.0
