  • Dear Rugby Girl,

I understand that you wish to move us into hotel accommodation as you wish to capitalise on changes that have occurred since we accepted your offer that will result in you saving £15,000.

As i am sure you would wish to be fair we have checked if anything else has also changed since we accepted your offer. Seems that house prices have risen by several percent since then. So if you want to go ahead with your plan we will be increasing the price by £15,000 (just to be equitable of course).

Let me know what you decide.

    Kind Regards
    Your House Sellers

I would assume they have more to lose by losing the sale  , the OP can find somewhere else ,
Vuja De - the feeling you'll be here later

Their prerogative. If I received this as the buyer I would just walk away laughing. Pretty quickly so that I could buy again before end of June.
Why would the sellers go to all this trouble of writing such nonsense if they're happy to put their house back on the market, which is what would inevitably happen, with such a snotty letter. and, as their house has gone up by 15,000 in a matter of weeks, maybe they'll get another £30000 by the time they complete ...

Which is what they should do if they're not happy.

No suggesting they write it. Just making OP see how selfish it might seem to the seller. If OP makes the right call there will be no need for any letters to be wrote anway. OP gets the house at the price they were happy to pay and on the date they were always told. Seller gets the price they agreed and can move on with their lives in the lowest hassle way. Everyone happy.

Nobody really holds any cards as it's been agreed how/when the sale would go through.  But just maybe an opportunity to save a bit of money has arisen.

If I were the seller I might welcome a bit of space between leaving the house and leaving the country, in case any loose ends still existed - especially if someone else paid. Pity about lockdown - they could use the time doing a bit of sightseeing in this country.
Think you've confused the situation. The OP wants to know if they can complete the sale early but let the seller stay in the house in between. The date the seller is moving to America hasn't changed so there isn't any space in between.
There would be if they agreed to complete early and stay in temporary accommodation.

No there wouldn't as all that changes is where they live. They may be working right up to that date or that's a date they have arranged for all their furniture etc to be shipped. You make it sound like the buyer is doing the seller a favor when in fact its the opposite.

The only best outcome for everyone (in my opinion) would be if the sellers stayed in the house with some form of agreement and the buyer saved the £15k - paying mortgage costs for someone to live free for 3 weeks. This is risky as others have stated for many reasons.

I hadn't thought of that I must admit.  But as we don't know their situation it's all just suggestions anyway.

It's odd that the seller wants to stay until the end of the UK term - US schools tend to go back in August, which might compromise them getting there on time.  I guess the only issue might be if one of the children is year 6 and doesn't want to miss the end of phase.
Moving date could of course be dependant on work commitments too.
