Import duty/vat from Ukraine

We’re trying to buy a dog house /crate online and the company is based in the Ukraine. The price is over £135 (I know, ludicrous) but I can’t figure out what extra charges we may incur - all explanations seem to refer to imports from Europe countries

will there be additional VAT/customs charges? I can’t find info about it other than for sure countries which doesn’t apply to the Ukraine

many thanks in advance

I don't think the source country makes a difference.

Should just be standard VAT and a handling fee.

So an extra 20% plus £5-10 handling?

You may need to pay customs duty as its over £135.
I'm not certain, but looks like it will be 2% duty Commodity code 7326909890: Other - UK Global Online Tariff - GOV.UK (trade-tariff.service.gov.uk)
Thats in addition to the 20% VAT.

I think it’s some ridiculous price like £235
So an extra 22%takes it to £287!

can VAT be included at the initial purchase point? So is it Possible it’s in the initial charge?

No, it's not in the initial price, because until you have entered your address details, the vendor's system doesn't know the tax applicable. Once the system knows it's the UK, it should, if they have registered properly, add the 20% VAT. But I wouldn't assume that a company selling dog kennels from Ukraine is going to be registered to pay UK VAT. Go through checkout to the penultimate stage and it should be clear if not.
You'll pay 2% import duty and a fixed handling charge to RM, or whoever delivers it and pays the UK duty.
Is it really not possible to buy this kind of thing within the UK? The courier charge from Ukraine must be a large part of the total cost.
