Hot water tank economy 7

Now that you have set the clock to the right time it looks like it will turn on at about 2:30 and off at 07:00. I take it that you are on an Economy 7 tariff?0

Thank you. I checked with energy provider previously and have heard the meter switch. Turned the dial round as mentioned in previous comment and timer turns off for 7am.Gerry1 said:N_Pars said:
Thank you. I think I've just set the dial to the correct time now. Off peak hours are 12:30 - 7:30.Gerry1 said:The timer thinks it's 4am so the immersion heater is switched on and it's costing you a fortune at peak rate !Look at the meter to find out exactly when your E7 cheap rates start and stop. Note that there can be a 2-hour gap in the middle of the night. Here's a clue.Probably best to set it for an hour or two to finish shortly before the end of the cheap rate. You'll need to watch the meter change over; it may not be set to the times you think. You then need to make sure the Horstmann is programmed appropriately. Get it wrong and it will be expensive. Check again on Sunday when it's summer time.Don't use the expensive 60 minute boost unless you've been away or have used an excessive amount of hot water.
Will remember to turn dial to set time again to summer time once clock's change.0 -
You probably won't have to change anything next week because the meter is likely to stay switching at GMT times. You may make a slight saving if you delay the start until an hour or two before the end of the cheap rate.1

OK thank you. Can't believe the water has been heating up during the day. 🤦🏻♀️Gerry1 said:You probably won't have to change anything next week because the meter is likely to stay switching at GMT times. You may make a slight saving if you delay the start until an hour or two before the end of the cheap rate.0 -
Hi everyone, thanks for all the advice. Looks like the timer is knackered and the unit needs replacing!1

The good news is that these are very easy to replace without rewiring. You can even put in a digital one; you just undo the two screws and the replacement fits inside the same casing.2

That's great, thank you! Waiting on 1 to be delivered in next couple days.shinytop said:The good news is that these are very easy to replace without rewiring. You can even put in a digital one; you just undo the two screws and the replacement fits inside the same casing.1
