Hi Stuart_W
Aldi have in stock Holly Lane Deep Filled Mince Pies (I think they're about 69p a box)
They are listed in The Vegan Societys Animal Free Shopper and I can safely say they are sooo delicious. They are filled to the 'brim' and the pastry is really tasty. They have had them in stock now for a while. Hope that helps. If you don't have an Aldi near you I don't mind posting a box off to you for your vegan dinner guest. Post permitting of course.

The new challenge seems to be: "Who's still got vegan mince pies in stock?"
I went to Asda today with the intention of putting together a little "emergency hamper" of vegan mince pies, christmas puds etc, to take to my Aunt's tomorrow, and all they've got left is Mr Kipling :-(Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Woo-hoo! After a sadly mince-pie-free Christmas (due to stock issues), I found an Aldi in Cardiff last night that had WAY over-stocked and have reduced their vegan mince pies even further. I could only carry 7 boxes...Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0

I hope you don't mind an omnivore asking a question.
Why is it that vegetarians/vegans seem to want their own versions of products normally made from animal products, vegan mince pies, Tofu Turkeys, Quorn mince etc..
Surely there must be better eating to be had with uniquely vegi recipes than by trying to emulate the animal based fair.
Firstly, I think you must be mistaking mince pies for aussie meat pies. Mince pies are the ones made of fruit mince and only come out at xmas time.
In reference to the vegan's eating mock meats - I am one such person, as is my hubby. We love to add fake chicken to dishes, and eating at vegan restaurants that use mock meats as we both did not give up meat because of the taste. In fact I used to say that I would be veggie/vegan apart from the fact that I loved the taste of meat! It wasn't until I couldn't eat meat anymore for ethical reasons, that I finally made the decision to go vegan regardless of the taste, and discovered that vegan food does taste good and is filling (which were my fears). I took to eating lentil burgers and falafel or rice ball wraps. I didn't discover mock meats until after a while and then it made being vegan easier as I could experiment with mum's recipes that I loved. Especially finding vegan soy cheese.
Everyone is bought up to eat what their parents or guardians eat (unless you're a fussy eater). I never thought I was eating animals when I was younger and mum covered up the fact too. It wasn't until I moved out of home that I made food choices that I was happy with. To get back to the point, sometimes I have cravings for chicken say, then I have the substitute and then I no longer have the craving. If I'd eaten meat, it would not only have made me feel wrong ethically, it would also be too oily as I haven't had meat for 6 years.
I usually get Mr Kippling fruit mince pies or ones from an organic shop which say they are vegan (in Australia).0
