Barclays account under review

Hey! I was hoping there might be someone who could help! I’ve read every story on here about Barclays putting peoples accounts under review and not giving a valid reason, they have done the same to me because my friend sent me £300 to help while I’m on furlough with bills and food etc... I went into the branch today and they said I needed proof of receipt from my friend however he works away a lot and it’s hard to get in touch when he’s away, the bank teller told me that if it was benefits they have to give me the money with no questions asked, surely I can’t just go into a branch and say it’s benefit money when it’s not? It seemed like he was implying that’s what I should do if I need it quickly but I’m not too trusting with Barclays anymore! Please if anyone could give me some advice if they have done this in the past I’m really struggling with money and have no access to my account

  • Did any other money go into your account? did you pay anyone or for any service?
It is not advisable to lie even if some guy on the front bench suggested it.

No you can't say it's benefits as (1) DWP have various codes which prove the money was from them and (2) you don't have a letter to also show you're in receipt of it.
It sounds like the bank guy was using an example to explain how easier it would have been if it was benefits.

You will need to get proof from your friend.

Also, look to open a new account to have your furlough money paid in to.

Can you see why Barclays think this is suspicious ?  £300 comes in (from a friend ?)   and £300 goes out ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

£300 didn’t go out, £38 at Lidl went out, the money was sent because I’m struggling being on furlough, he’s sent me money before and I’ve sent him money before for takeaways , tickets etc...

There is more to this story than we are being told I suspect.

How is there more to the story? My account is under review, I got sent the money a little over a week ago and used £38 for a food shop as the rest will pay the bills coming out before my furlough comes in, yesterday I found out my account is under review with no valid reasoning I was just explaining how the only thing I think it could be is the £300, my friend helps me out every month and I pay him back as soon as my furlough comes in. I think you need to actually read these before you comment

The problem you have is that for whatever reasons known only to the bank, they are asking about the £300 payment with a view to it possibly being a little dodgy.
In trying to allay those suspicions they ask you some questions but your answers, (works away a lot and difficult to get in touch with) do nothing to ease those suspicions, only increase them.

The reality is that now your account is under review, you will have to wait for them to conclude their investigation.
