Should I just get a phone installed?

Options
Like many people on the forum, I'd love to leave Virgin Broadband. They've hiked up my bill by £17.50 in the last 2 months (£40 for internet only) and their service is abysmal.
I've tried to look for better / different deals elsewhere but I seem to be stuck in a corner, as I don't have a BT Line installed and it seems thar Virgin have the monolopy on the full fibre.
They offered to reduce my bill to £30 a month but ideally I'd leave them altogether.
Should I look at getting a line installed, to open up my options or will they be phased out soon anyway?
I feel like I'm going round in circles but need to make a decision as I'm still paying the £40 a month!
Thank you.

If you decide to move away from Virgin to a BT based provider and you don't have a BT line, one would be installed for you, you don't need to have one done yourself.

Also consider mobile internet if you get decent signal(s) where you are, some free PAYG sims from the 4 networks will be your guide there.

Note that if you do move away from Virgin to a BT based provider you will need to cancel the service yourself.  Once you get onto a BT service and move around it will be a case of pick a provider, sign up, wait 17 days, swap the router out, job done, you speak to nobody.

How do you know that a BT line would offer you a better service, worth while checking what you can get before jumping.

    Not at all true .
  • @JJ_Egan Thanks for replying.  If you have any advice, that would be amazing
Hyperoptic isn't available at my address and BT still require you to take a phoneline
  • @matelodave I've absolutely no assurances of that but it would greatly widen my options and I could potentialy be rid of Virgin which would be a huge result! :)

The "phone line" is irrelevant, its part of any broadband package that you buy from an Openreach based provider. You may have a one time charge to install a line. But the broadband packages from BT, TT, SKy etc will include the cost of the line in the monthly costs.
  • @littleboo I think I'm overthinking it then.  I'll start my search again, looking at what's the best deal for my requirememnts.  Thank you

Sorry you where saying full fibre is a VM monopoly ,
Biggest fibre to the premises rollout is BT Open Reach FTTP .
OpenReach BT Sky etc non FTTP  will give max speed  of 80 meg . But that is subject to distance from cabinet and condition of the line .

Not quite worded right. There is a one off payment of £60 to have a phone line installed. Once it's paid it's not included in the monthly costs unless for your own information, you could say over 12 months, it's £5 a month but even that is not right because once you have it, it's there for as long as you want it.
