Barclays mortgage process

  • Barcalys have been an absolute nightmare for me. Don't want to assume everyone is going to have the same problems, but they have messed me around for months.
    Full application mid November
My MB has been contacting them regularly as they keep coming up with new delays. Looked like underwriters were happy with income in December, then for some reason, instead of going to valuation stage, it went back to underwriting and they were quizzing my previous year's p60. We'd almost given up hope with them late Jan, but they came back with some alternative terms, so it went to valuation stage early Feb. Mortgage offer received last week, but terms weren't right so its gone back to underwriting again.

As far as I know, they are swamped in applications and my MB has said that they have a number of clients in the same position with outstanding applications back to October. They have split to 3 departments which has slowed the process down further. Also they do not accept telephone calls, so all correspondence (even between brokers is done through on-line chat)

To say I'm appalled is putting it midly. I just pray that we don't get a no after receiving an offer last week (albeit wrong)

I hope others have a better time than I've had, but my experience has been laughable.

Sorry you have had a bad experience mate.
  • Hey,
    Here's my timeline:
    17/03: soft/hard search check completed
18/03: Full application plus documents including proof of deposit,  wage slips and bank statements submitted
24/03: mortgage accepted (subject to valuation)

I'm just waiting for them to book a valuation, they will contact my EA this week hopefully!

Wow that was fast. Well done.

Broker has told me the valuation has happened this morning and there is current a 5 day turnaround on assessing documents. Had to resubmit payslip yesterday has file was corrupt. Hoping it doesn’t take too long to get some indication

You should receive an email or letter from barclays with a code, which you can use to track your application here: https://www.barclays.co.uk/ways-to-bank/track-it/.  It spells out all the stages you go through, all the way to to the mortgage being released at completion.

Thanks! I was pleasantly surprised as well.
  • Fortunately, I have received a new offer. Terms are now correct, but the address and a typo on my name need amending. At least its approved now. After5 months.

Pleased to read others above are having a much better service. Happy house moving, everyone

Glad you got your offer in the end
  • Just a quick update!

So my valuation was completed on 1st April last week, and today Barclays have officially issued me a mortgage offer! So overall the process took from 18th March until 6th April, which I was expecting to be a lot longer!
