Sold a dodgy car by a dealer

Hi there. Looking for some advice. I bought a car from a large Scottish dealership in Sept 2020. The car did not come with 1 years MOT, it was done in March 2020 and sat at the dealership until i purchased it. No big deal when buying. Fast forward to last week when the car went though it's MOT at an independent garage and they picked up that part of the breaks had been fitted the wrong way round and the wheel bearing had went. The dealer has acknowledged the breaks after speaking to the garage but although the car has only done 20k miles i cannot prove the wheel bearing was like this at purchase. I am wondering if there is anything to be done? Or any advice anybody can give? My wife drove the car daily with my kids. The dealer has said that there was no safety issue with the breaks. I was hoping someone could offer advice before I speak to the dealer again.

Thanks

Basically what can I do if anything regarding them not selling as described under consumer rights act. The car has done app 4k miles since we bought it. Its a 2017 model. The car has been put right by the mot garage but obviously cost me to rectify

I would think it's probably too late to do much. It seems you've paid the rectify the issues yourself before they had the opportunity to do it.

What was the description ??you claim is wrong .
Bearings  wear  and could have went within 4K miles of usage .
You can ask the dealer to pay towards costs they may or may not .

I understand the bearings could have went. The garage said it wad unusual with such a low milage, hence why i cannot prove it. The main issue is being sold a car with and MOT that had breaks fitted incorrectly. I paid for the garage to fix as the dealer wanted to look into it over the weekend but my wife requires the car as she is a key worker. I was looking for some ammo so they do not fob me off when i speak with them again

You have to give the dealer chance to inspect and or see the report from the garage that fixed the brakes .
Otherwise its down to goodwill if they have no proof of your claim .
MOT is inspection on one day only ,in theory wrong brake install could have been anytime after .MOT says no more than on xxx day the vehicle passed the required inspection of xx components .
If car had been MOT.d at point of sale that's a different outcome .

The car was mot'd by the dealership in march 2020 and sat there until we purchased in sept 2020. The dealership spoke to the garage and have acknowledged the fact the breaks were incorrectly fitted, maybe not by them,  but the car passed an mot at their dealership and passed the breaks which were already on wrong.

Provided that the brakes operated within the permitted limits and there was nothing obvious that the previous MOT tester saw, then depending on what exactly was incorrectly fitted, there's no reason why the car couldn't have passed the MOT brake check satisfactorily.
As you've driven it 4000 miles, the brakes must have been operating without too much of a problem so what exactly was it that was fitted the wrong way around?

I have no car knowledge at all. The mot garage said the break pad retaining springs were fitted the wrong way round. I dont understand how the dealer didn't notice but the mot garage failed the car due to this "major defect"

If a wheel bearing fails, you would be aware of this while driving the car and you wouldn't be driving 4000 miles without realising something was wrong.
